We have used Randy's in the past and been very satisfied. But I was just looking on Walker's website and it looks like their scooters might be even easier to take apart and it also looks like they are waterproof. Anyone out there who has used both vendors to compare? TIA

I wish that I could help you, but I have never disassembled a scooter from those two companies.

I hope that someone can answer your question.

Hear is a link to Walker Medical Company web page showing photos and a video of how they disassemble and reassemble one of their scooters.

I know that they use Randall scooters, but I can't seem to get an answer as to the exact scooters that they rent by size.

Their passenger weight and the Randall passenger weight limits do not match up.

And I see on Randys website the Victory 10 and Celebrity scooters, but I can't determine exactly what they rent either as far as all of their scooters.

Good luck.

Thank you for checking for me. We did like the scooter from Randy's and we did take it apart, but it was pretty tough for me to lift some heavy pieces into the van. The Walker light weight one looks like it would be easier to take apart (at least the video looks that way). But I wonder if it is as comfortable to ride since it is not as heavy-duty. I guess that this is not a hugely important decision so it is silly for me to worry about it but I thought that there might be someone who knows more about these than I do. Maybe we should just try Walker this October so we can compare. Then when we go back in December we will know which we prefer. Thanks again! :thumbsup2

P.S. Looks like we will be at WDW at the same time in December!

I just looked at the video from Walker's on disassembling the scooter. Mine disassembles very simularly, except that my batteries are in one piece.

Apple scooters rent the style that I have, and the heaviest piece of the scooter is the rear wheels which weigh about 39lbs. I have the Pride Go-Go Elite Traveler Plus scooter if that is any help.

We rented a scooter from Apple and it was one of the larger ones with the big captains chair. We had to flip the lever, pull the seat off, then remove the cover, remove both batteries, turn the dial on the front steering piece, fold that down, remove the basket and put it in the car, batteries went along side the base in the trunk. My trunk (Impala) was just large enough to hold the base. I did scratch my paint though, it was on the heavier side - and I am not a weak person. The chair and basket went into the back seat.

If I ever had to do this again I would need a van because the scratch on the 2011 Impala just about killed me.

It is do-able but takes a plan and a couple times of practice. My Mom wouldn't do the buses so everytime we went somewhere I had to load, unload, load and unload to come back to the resort...

Hope this helps,

The scooter model that Randy's rents sounds like the heavy one you had, Tweevil, at least that is the way it came apart and I had a hard time lifting the heavy part. A couple of times a kind stranger helped. DH helped too but he is NOT supposed to be doing that. So maybe we will try one of those lighter ones this time, like you have peemagg. We don't really do the parks for long stretches any more so the seat should be comfortable enough. The only issue may be a headlight. I think the ones at Randy's have a headlight that DH liked for going between Epcot, DHS and Boardwalk at night.

You can get around the headlight with the use of a flashlight if necessary. I have used my scooter all day at the parks and elsewhere and it was not a bad ride at all. I've been quite comfortable. If lifting the scooter is going to be an issue, you might have to give up a few comforts in order to allow you to transport the scooter.

I recommend checking out the specs of each scooter you are interested in renting and see how much each piece is.

For example, the Pride Go-Go Traveler Elite Plus's parts each weighs
seat-22.5lbs
front deck-29lbs
rear wheel section-32.5lbs
battery-29lbs
total weight 113lbs

You need to weigh out how much you are able to lift comfotably to lessen the chance of injuring your back. That was the main concern I had when I got this scooter. I needed to think of whether or not any of these pieces were beyond mine or my Mothers capacity to lift. Basically the more bells and whistles a scooter has, the more it weighs. I looked at Randy's site and then went to the Pride site (That looks like where their scooters come from) and there was a page on there that compared the scooters that Randy has and listed all their particulars. It looks like the Victory 10's heaviest piece weighs around 50+ lbs. It might be worth your time to take a look at that site.

I did check out that site earlier and saw that 50 pound number and then I realized why I was having trouble lifting it. My upper body strength is pathetic. As for the flashlight, that could be an option. We already have a flashlight stored and waiting for us in our Owner's Locker.

I can tell you from experience, that as long as you are my size or under (5'4 about 235), you should find yourself quite comfortable with one rated as a travel scooter. Most people only need a heavy duty model if they weigh 300lbs+. If you don't weigh anything close to the 300lb limit, then I suggest you try a travel scooter. They are smaller, weigh less, and easier to move.

DH is about 200#, so I guess the lite scooter should work fine. Thanks for the clarification.

I rent from vacation scootors, in Orlando. My wife and I rent the diplomats and these two scootors fit into the back of the third seat of a mid size mini van. These scootors are very lightweight and can handle weight of over 300 lbs. Spencer

I wanted to post back in case there are any others out there looking to rent a scooter that can be taken apart and lifted into a car more easily. We ended up renting the light weight Pride Go-Go (thanks, peemag!) from Apple scooter. It was, indeed, lighter weight than scooters we have rented in the past. We had also rented a minivan and we found that we could just remove the seat and the battery and then lift the scooter into the minivan without doing anything else. It was still a little heavy doing it that way but we managed. The seat was not quite as comfortable as the bigger ECVs but just fine for DH.
I liked that there was a laminated instruction card attached to the inside of the basket. Apple also offered to meet us at the resort if we wanted a demonstration. The cost was very cheap ($160 total for 8 days) and included insurance. We will be going to WDW again in about a month and plan to rent this scooter from Apple again. Thanks to all who offered advice!

I am going to suggest that you may want to try K & M Rentals for scooters.
www.km-rentals.com

They rent all sizes of scooters, the staff is easy to work with and very flexible. Best of all the prices on the smaller scooters are $25 per day and the larger scooters $35 per day. They offer free delivery and pick up.

This is the least expensive scooter rental organization with great customer service!

They also rent wheelchairs, strollers, baby items, rollaway beds and many other things.

I have used their services for my clients for several years and have had no issues. It's nice to be able to call one place for everything.

But two of the ECVs that KM lists are longer than the 48 inches allowed on Disney buses.

We only paid $20/day including everything and we had free pickup and delivery.

I have the Pride GoGo EliteTraveler and I got the Carex Universal Attachable Flashlight setup from Amazon. It works great and is always attached to my scooter.

Thanks for this info. I will show it to DH and see if he wants to order one to keep in our Owner's Locker.
