Scooter Rentals and Disability Service Access Card

Hi! I am traveling to Disney next month and my Mother in Law is most likely going to need a mobility scooter and a a Disability Service Access Card from a vein/clotting issue in her legs that make it hard to stand for extended periods and walk long distances.

Could someone give me some clues on what the process is for getting a scooter rental? Also, with the DAS card, I read that it can be attached to 6 guests that are traveling with the disabled individual. Do you know if they make exceptions to this rule? Our party is 7 adults and 2 infants (2.5 and 1). Do you know if they would allow all 7 individuals of our party to be covered (1 disabiled individual and 6 other "adults")

I might have missed a change, but I think that for issues that are fixed with a scooter you don't even need the DAS. I think the scooter is self evident.

I'm not sure about the scooter rental, but the other poster is right. If she has a scooter she can use, they likely will say you don't need a DAS pass. But the people in the DISability forum are incredibly helpful!

It is unlikely that your mother will get a DAS card, but to answer your question about the number of people, yes, guest relations often make exceptions for larger families traveling together.
Are you familiar with Rider Switch? This will allow everyone to experience attractions that the babies are too short to ride safely.

Yes, scooter and rider swap will help you much more than a DAS. Are you heading to the World or the Land? Most of the lines are mainstreamed at the World so she will just enter the line with the whole party. Disneyland is a bit different, with some alternative entrances. Either way, a cast member would be able to steer you in the right direction. For those rides with height restrictions, you can use rider swap. Again, just let the CM know at the entrance and they can help you out.

ECV rental is first come first serve. so I would think about getting one from off site vender than on site.
most line at Disney you can take your ECV thoguth ( either FP or standby) and if you can not then the CM will let you know what you need to do. ( I think in all of disney, maybe 5-6 rides you can not)

as fair as the DAS this is for people that can not be in line if all your mother in law needs is a place to site then she will not beable to get a DAS. If she has other needs then you can talk to GR about her needs, but things like I can not stand, I can not walk that fare, I can not be in the sun ( there are exception to this) are thing that a DAS card will not help.

as a PP said I would use rider swap this will help you out so much.

There are a couple of threads pinned near the top of this forum which explain DAS -- one for DisneyWORLD and the other for DisneyLAND, the program is similar but some slight differences based on the locations. You only need the read the first (long) post of the respective thread, and can disregard the rest of the lengthy discussion that occurred around the time the DAS program launched.

As other posters have mentioned, if the scooter is all she needs then there is no need for a DAS and it won't be issued. If she has other needs unrelated to the scooter use, she will need to be prepared to discuss those needs at Guest Relations when requesting a DAS.

Scooters will fit on most lines. So she can used the scooter up until she boards the ride. CM will move it to where she will exit the ride. So it will be weighting for her. Family members can move the scooter to make it easier for disabled person
