Scooter Rental Suggestion

I plan to rent a scooter during our upcoming 10 day trip. While I have used a scooter before, I do no use one at home. I will probably rent from Apple and have been looking at the models available. I am not sure which model to go with. I like the bigger model, but it looks as if it might be a bit heavy to get in and out of the back of the mini-van we are renting and maybe not as easy to assemble and disassemble.

The go go lite looks like it would work, but I will walk some and ride some (have a herniated disk problem) and will need someone else to ride in the scooter for me at times, and I have some big guys in my group and was a bit worried about the weight limit--275, I think. It didn't look like it had a headlight on it either. That may not be an issue since parks aren't open late this time of year, but we will be doing a MNSSHP one night.

Any advantages to the 4 wheeler over the 3 wheeler models.

Anyone care to make recommendations and suggestions or observations about either of the scooters.

The headlight is actually pretty useless. It doesn't help you to see in the parks. Don't let that be a consideration.

The gogo is a good ECV. I have the Victory. It also comes apart and isn't too difficult to load (of course I don't load it--my BIL does!)

comes apart in 5 pieces, hardest for me was taking the seat off/on - with a few sessions of practice - i could put it together in about 2 minutes -

It looks to me as if the heaviest part if this model ( the three wheeler) is around 54 pounds when disassembled. I have a little concern about getting this in and out of the car if the guys aren't with us. That was the only reason I was looking at the go go lite.

I use the Elite, and find that I can load it by myself just fine. I can even load it without taking the rear wheels off of the deck, but it is not the best idea. I purposely chose that scooter for the fact that the heaviest piece was only about 35lbs, and that was a weight that either myself or my 65+ year old mother could handle. With two of us, we can load the scooter into our van without doing anything other than removing the battery.

The difference between 3 wheel model and 4 wheel models is that 3 wheel ones have a tighter turning radius, but a 4 wheeler can be more stable if turning tight.

Something that you can do if you don't want to have someone else use the scooter due to weight issues, you could park the stroller for a while in the stroller parking and then walk to a few places and come back and pick the scooter up.

One thing that some don't think about with regards to weight is that the manufacturer recommends a weight limit. I use a factor of 50lbs less than the weight limit for the rider, it is easier on the batteries that way. I recommend that if your weight is within 50lbs of the limit, then go with the larger scooter. The more weight that the scooter has to haul, the more it drains the batteries.

Thanks for your input. I hadn't thought about the weight limits in that respect, plus there will be the backpack that we will probably hang off the back of the seat.

That is something that also needs to be factored into the weight that the scooter carries.
