Scooter Etiquette/Questions

Taking it in line is less time for it to be sitting out when it may rain (Florida is known for pop up showers) and sometimes it cuts down on your wait time for the ride.
Maybe that's a toss-up, but there are definitely some queues where having a mobility device means waiting longer, even if you aren't waiting for an accessible ride vehicle.

Unfortunately I find that often the case.

yup, I'm looking at you Small World! It took us to an hour, on a quiet day to get into a boat. They wouldn't let us park the scooter and head into the regular line because the area was swamped with strollers. They were only loading people into the accessible boats and i felt so guilty. I tried to bail but that was impossible

sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this contains a lot of info I was looking for.

I'm going in June. I'm recovering from Cancer and it has spread to my hip bone, so I'm not as strong. Walking around home is fine, but our past Disney days have been 8-10 miles per day (more on AK days) so I'm not willing to chance it.

Is there a map indicating the locations of scooter/ECV parking? Does the disabilities guide map have that?

When parking, do you turn it off and take the key? or ??

Is there a "recommended" scooter/ECV model for "beginners" but can last a long day?

I always recommend taking a scooter in the line with you. You never know how long the line actually will take (posted time may not be correct or may change while you are in line). At the ride, the cast members will tell you where to park and then will often move it to the exit or to a better spot. Most rides, you will take your key with you, but there are a few where they ask you to leave the key for them since it will be moved further. If you want to park outside a ride, just park it in the stroller parking and absolutely always take the key with you. Cast members can move without a key if needed.

In terms of where to rent, we are big fans of Gold Mobility Scooters. You will have to meet them in person, but they provide a high quality scooter and will show you all the controls and answer any and all questions that you may have when they drop it off.

I'm in a similar situation and have rented regular wheelchairs. Is the ECV diffiucult to operate? I'm always afraid of bumping into someone. I have used them at grocery stores, but there typically are not crowds!
ECVs are Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezie easy….there’s really no comparison to the EVCs you get at the grocery store or big box stores…they’re about as alike as a 16 wheeler and a Corolla.

1 - Not sure about a map but the stroller and ECV areas as plainly marked - you can also ask a CM at the ride where the best place to park is.
2 - Yes- turn it off and take the key
3 - I recommend a 3 wheel ECV as they are easier to maneuver.
I tell people all the time - There’s tons of people on ECVs at WDW

1. When in doubt, just ask a nearby CM! They’ll be happy to point you to the parking if you don’t see it on your own.

2. Take the key when parking outside rides. A stolen ECV would put a serious damper on your trip. (CMs can still move your ECV by manually unlocking it and pushing it if sort of situation arises and it needs to be moved.)

Fwiw- the first thing our ECV user does when he gets an ECV at Disney is find a quiet area to run the ecv around a little and get feel for it. That can also help calm nerves about operating it before you encounter crowds.
