I am traveling with my mom, DS(11) and DS (will be 9 months time of trip). When DS (11) was younger we traveled with DH, mom, a scooter for mom and myself, we used Disney transportation and never had a problem.

This trip DH can not make it and I'm adding a new baby to the mix; so I have decided to rent a minivan. We will be in Florida from Sept 23 to Oct 8 but only at Disney Sept 28th to October 8th.

I need to rent a scooter that can be disassembled so I can get it in the minivan. For the last 5 trips we rented from Care Medical Equipment, but they don't have a scooter that disassembles. I have rented from scootaround before and will never again. We went through 4 scooters in 5 days during our April 2005 trip. Does anyone have any other great rental place they suggest that has disassembled scooters?

Also if I can't get a scooter that disassembles do you know a good cheap car rental place that has a scooter carrier thingy for the back of the car.

For those parking in handicap: Do you bring your handicap hanger from home or do you just show your disable ID to DIsney and they give you one?

I have never rented a car so this is all new to me.

TIA

Look at the scooters from Apple Scooters. The Pride Go-Go Traveler Elite Plus scooters break down easily. That is my own personal scooter and I know that Apple rents them.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

1. If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including in Post #2 where people rent ECVs.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

2. You cannot get an ECV lift on a rental car. Besides the cost, it has to be installed in a trailer hitch receiver, wired in, and adjusted for the specific ECV for the lockdown mechanism.

3. You need to bring your own hang tag. The Orange County Sheriff's Office patrols the lots and will issue tickets to vehicles without one. Current fine is $250.

3A. Disney does not issue disabled hang tags; they cut this out about 15 years ago.

4. If you have not rented a car previously, I would suggest that you read your current car insurance policy. Most policies will cover a "temporary, substitute automobile" and provide the same coverage as your regular car. Also, the credit card you are using may provide coverage. The car rental place will try to sell you various policies; don't buy them.

If you have an Amex card call them and ask them about their car rental insurance. My mother use their Car rental insurance it be 24.99 when you rent a car and it gives you full 45 days of coverage so it he cheaper then the rental car place. What also good if you could rent a car more then Once with in the 45 days and not be charged again. It works on any Amex card wheater it the jet blue, blue, Costco, and regular.

You need your hang tag for sure they enforce handicap parking also I have full coverage on my insurance so they cover me if I rent a car. I believe most if not all the companies listed in the FAQ have scooters that break down
