Scoop pin for sale again...

This seller also has two stitch pin for auction at big bucks. They descibe them as fantasy when they are "Bootleg". Such a shame.

a nice young man with TWO Scoop pins, which he said he traded for...it was all I could do to keep from looking at the numbers on the back...I just don't understand this...

I guess pin collecting and trading doesn't mean much to others. Some people look at it as fast money. Who are we to judge them? Think about it for a minute...if some of you lived close to WDW and weren't into pin trading, but knew how much money could be made, wouldn't you sit in at a Scoop seminar hoping to get a Scoop pin knowing that you can get an easy $500.00 for it? I hope to see some honest replys

Joe

If we lived closer to WDW, would the temptation be there to try for and possibly sell a Scoop pin for several hundred $$$? Yes.

Would we act on that temptation? No.

Like you said, pin collecting and trading doesn't mean that much to others. Apparently, neither does the meaning behind certain pins. Yes, they're just hunks of painted metal, but certain pins have a meaning that, IMO, transcends money.

Lauri received her first CTT from Scoop (along with Jeff) after the first GPA in 2001. I received my CTT on my birthday. Lauri received her Scoop pin as a gift from a wonderful "pinboy". There are other pins we've received as gifts for one reason or another that have a great meaning behind them. These are pins that we would never want to part with.

Matt - your assuming that everyone that pin trades does it for the same reasons as you. Some do it just for the business aspect of it. I am not knocking their reasons. We all have our reasons for pin traing but it amazes me that so many people react like a terrible act has occured. To some people it is just a pin to trade or sell as they see fit and to some it represents a moment they will cherish forever.

ps - and it does make it easier to part with when you have more than one.

That some people will find a way to make money, no matter who or what they walk over...It reminds me of all the people trying to make money on the Twin Towers disaster, hrs. after it happened, people had paper, and pieces from the scene on ebay....after all do we fault these people...they just wanted to make a couple of bucks??

What means something precious to us..is a $ sign to others...those people are just out there, and unfortunately we have to learn to accept it..not to like it, or respect what they do....

Just my opinion..

at least I think it was the intention, was that it was a GIFT from Scoop to a pin trader (either veteran or newbie) as thanks for trading well or "continuing the tradition"...the intent was that it was to be kept by the "givee", not traded or sold...there were a FEW exceptions to the trade part with the first ones given out, but not for those given later.

I am scratching my head here, because we all ASSUME we know how this person got the pin. We do not know. The pin is property of this person who owns it and as any giveaway pins from Disney it can be given away, sold or even thrown away IF the owner wishs.
I also confused on how we can always judge this pin and sale of but we dont say much about the person who illegally attaches a DISNEY add-on pin such as Stitch or Figment to a Fantasy PTP base and sells it for $200+
Why are we not getting more upset over that ??

I agree with Matt. Although these are just small chunks of metal, and it's nice SOME pin I have is worth $, I wouldn't trade or sell it.
Sure, I could use a garden shed more than another pin. ;) But that was an honor and is a great reminder that two people (Kris and Scoop) thought enough of me to get their heads together and give me such a special pin.
The plus side is that some who have no or little chance of being honored by receiving a Scoop pin have an opportunity to buy one. Too bad it costs so darn much.
Heck I bought a CTT pin on Ebay. My chances are nil of being awarded one. No one condemns that seller, including me.
It is their pin and they can do with what they want.

Stuff happened in 1969 that was not to cool; I still have nightmares about it.

And Matt I gave you guys that pin to suck up and get closer to the edit button, which if you notice has been replaced by an exact duplicate only smaller and does not work, the real one is… Well never mind where the real one is. :teeth:

Let them sell it… I offered to buy it, but they have a private offer on it for more then I’m willing to pay for a pin.

I will say this it’s an honor to Scoop to know that the private offer is right up there with Haunted Mansion, and Maleficent. So that means it a desirable pin.

Oh and did I mention I have a Scoop AP pin original on my wall. :teeth: I just thought I would mention it.

As I always say this too shall pass, so lets get a life and get on with it… (life that is)

And at least I can say this is not my fault… any of it so pffhhhttttt.

Hi Donna,

How can you compare the selling of a Scoop pin on Ebay to what happened on September 11? Thousands of people aren't in mourning from the sale of a Scoop pin! Also, Ebay sellers aren't trying to make a buck on other peoples misery from the sale of a Scoop pin. I hope I didn't offend you.

Joe

Whoa there Joe

First Donna spent the day of 9-11 glued to the Television and went through several boxes of tissues crying her eyes out; never will you find a more caring person than Donna. So don’t go there.

Donna was not implying that the sale of the Scoop pin was like September 11th I’m not speaking for her but as me, What she meant was that some people will do anything to make a buck there are those that will try to capitalize on anything including the misfortunes of others, if you will recall minutes after the attack on the World Trade Center there were hundreds of items on Ebay from burnt papers, to parts of the building.

In pintrading there is the same thing minutes after a pin is released you can find several of them on Ebay for sale, hey don’t knock it I do it but they are my pins and I can with them what I want… I also offer a lot of them to people up north at cost because they cant come down to get every pin that is released, but the highly collectable ones like the Scoop, the Haunted Mansion Dangle, and Mickey for president will bring in a high dollar sign so are more desirable.

What she was saying is that people in the 9-11 disaster were selling things that meant nothing to them but meant something to somebody somewhere. A piece of paper from an office on the 93rd floor means nothing to the person that picked it up and put it on ebay, but what about to the spouse of someone that worked in that office do you think they would put it up on Ebay. Same as the Scoop pin it means nothing to some a lot to others.

So that is what she was saying Joe she was not as you implied suggesting the selling of a Scoop pin was just like the 9-11 incident.

I hope I didn’t offend as well.

Here's a tidbit for you guys. I'm currently reading, "The Magic Kingdom: Walt Disney and the American Way of Life" by Stephen Watts. This is one of the better biographies of Walt Disney. The back is full of notes listing the various interviews, Walt Disney gave during his life, so this book has been thouroughly researched.

One of the anecdotes from the early part of Walt's life, talked about Walt and WWI. It tells how, Walt and a friend got their hands on a supply of German army helmets. The friend would put a bullet hole in each, Walt would paint the helmet with camouflage. They "banged" them around to make them look like they had been in battle and they sold them as "genuine relics of the war."

Makes you wonder what a young Walt would have done with Ebay, doesn't it?

Larry,

You wondered why we aren't upset about the Stitch add-ons to Fantasy pins, but we've had some great tirades on those pins, too!

BTW, I LOVE the story about the war helmets. Definitely something to think about.

Take a look at Disney's auctions. I mean they seem to have an endless supply of Sticth pins and Tinkerbell pins that can only be had through their auctions... Disney does very well with ebay...

As for the Scoop pins... The price was set on the last auction. It is only a matter of time before more hit the market (open market that is some have been sold private sale). It is only a pin. To some of us (me included) it is more and has a greater meaning. Not just becasue of who made it and awarded them to me but for what I feel it means... But to a lot of people it is a pin and a profitable one at that. The pin is a hand out that Scoop gives to those he feels have done something deserving of one. Lets face it... Not everyone is going to care about the pin the same way. And more and more are going to come out and be sold as more and more are handed out.

And remember as a collector it would be a sought after piece. Not everyone is in to pins as much as they were but a lot those people are still Disneyana colletors. Those collectors will want a pin that is not very offten made. Disney does not make a pin honoring or using the image of park exclusive character like Scoop and in such a small number as 750 very offten... If ever. It is truly a unique piece.

that when Scoop presents his pin to someone, he says that he REQUESTS that the recipient not trade or sell the pin...To me that is a big reason for not trading or selling the pin after it has been awarded...
Early on, several people were awarded pins and told that they, in turn, could award the pin to someone they thought was deserving...Scoop would then replace "that" pin...

more than just early on  :D ;) and they could trade it also, not only award. So the traded ones could end up in the hands of folks that would sell.

There have been very very few traded....most of them have been awarded, and when they were, Scoop was made aware of the award before it was done...the same thing was asked of the person the pin was awarded to...pls wear the pin, do not trade or sell... as stated so many times before...the pin was most often awarded to people not able to attend Scoops' seminar, and who was in the eye of the person making the award, a person that should have the Scoop pin...

I know more then a dozen people who fall into that catagory, unfortunately, I do not have that many pins available...the one that I was awarded, will be awarded to someone very soon....I also know of one person who traded the pin to someone who very much wanted the scoop pin, and the same thing was asked of them..

I know that not everyone feels this way, but I do..and that is how I intend to act on it...I know very well that there are many people who do not, and how they deal w/ that is their business..but I do not have to agree w/ the way they handle it.. I and most of the Scoop pin owners, will go our merry way..enjoy pin trading, and continue to shrug our shoulders at the things we do not understand..

This is a debate that will have no right or wrong... Scoop hands out a pin to a person who he feels is worthy of one... He makes a request of all he hands it out to. I will honor the request he made of me and will treasure these pins always.

But... And there is a but...

On pin pics right now there are 4 for trade (members trading says 4 but I could only see 3) That is not the but....

I am a huge Scoop fan and think he has done more for pin trading than any other person except Jim Matthews. I understand the honor of getting one... From Scoop... I don't see how that honor could ever come from another... I mean how many people out of the 20 that got one handed the pin out to someone they do not know? How many people have not traded it away for a HG pin? I am sorry but it seems like getting an acadamy award or a world series ring... One should get it from the Acadamy or for playing in the game... Not because someone other than the person who made the pin and put his heart and sole in to it gives it to them in exgange for something... Not when it was ment for something you already gave... Ed you gave your pin to someone who deserved it and Donna I am sure you will as well and I am not saying most others won't...

But the extra pin was given to you to use to trade for a HG or something else you really wanted... And that brings me to the but...

But how can you award a pin to someone and ask that they not trade it when you are getting a pin in trade for it...
