My kids like the look of the pics of the SciFi Inn but I am not sure what they will be showing - we are not typically fans of scifi but they like the cars. I had thought the 50s diner would be better for a family.

Anyone?

The SciFi Drive-In shows old clips of ads and previews from the days of drive-ins. They don't show full movies (or they didn't when we went a few years ago) and it's really eerie in there - no one really talks, because everyone is watching the clips on the screen, facing forward in the automobiles.

My son loves this place! He loves watching the old "scary" movie clips, which are basically some guy in a monkey suit kind of clips. They also show short cartoons, DS's fave is the Tom and Jerry one. Also newsreels from the 50's about what the future will be like.

We actually prefer this to the 50's Primetime Cafe. It's fun but a bit expensive and the menu is pretty basic. The can serve drinks for the kids in a souvenier cup with glow in the dark ice cubes which are really neat. (Again it's expensive but the kids love it)

Our kids are 8 and 10 (same age on our last visit) and this is where they want to go back the most! It was their favorite restaurant. It isn't too bad pricewise and the portions are big enough to share. DH and I split a sandwich and didn't leave hungry. We do this almost everywhere in WDW and DL their portions are so huge! Saves us money and leaves more room for Mickey Bars!

Me and my little brother ate there once for lunch ( he was about 13 and I was 16 at the time) we shared this huge plate of nachos and we each had a couple of soda's we are both huge scifi fans and loved it it was cool to sit inside a car and eat...we now do this every time we go down (hes 19 and im 22 now) its like our own little tradtion aside from our whole family traditions... it is kinda on the expensive side but the potions are huge and you can split them up between every one....

just wondering how big the cars are, how many do they seat? This is one of my 'must do's' on our next trip, but we may be there with my parents, making it a party of 7 plus a baby (that's why grandmas' going) Can we all sit together comfortably?

Last time we were there we almost went in but chickened out due to the price. This time I won't miss it if I have to eat alone!

Last time we went, we had 6 adults, 1 5yr old and a baby. My Sis and her Dh sat in the front w/ my DS, DH and I sat in the next row and my parents sat in the back seat. DD who was in a high chair sat in the aisle.
If you have a smaller party, they will sit you with other parties in your car. Not a big deal, since most of the seats are in rows 1 behind the other.

BTW, they do not guarantee you will get a car. The majority of the seating is cars but they do have some picnic tables around too. But we've been there many times and only had the picnic table once when we "walked up" instead of having PS.

Our family had a blast there (dd12,dd8,dd6,ds2,DW and myself). The kids really enjoyed the cars and the the food is good. We were last there in 2003 and everybody wants to go back

We were just there last week with my 3 sons 9, 11, 12. I was quite disappointed, even though we'd been there previously. We waited a LONG time, even though we had a PS and the park wasn't that crowded. Then the service was very slow. It was frustrating because the couple behind us in our car was seated well after us, and had their food before we had drinks (same waiter). I ordered shakes for the boys (2 vanilla, 1 strawberry), and got 2 chocolate before the waiter again disappeared for 15 minutes. We didn't know if they should drink them - we didn't, but the whole point of ordering them was to have them then while we were waiting. The waiter acted like it was our fault, and then brought 2 vanilla - again no strawberry. I was getting frustrated by this point.

My boys got hot dogs, which were extremely greasy. The kids meals came with very tiny drinks, and since we never saw our waiter, we never found if they could get refills or not (which they all really wanted). The waiter did push the glow cups on the first trip ($6 plus drink cost!), but we passed.

I was also a bit annoyed by as people said, the lack of conversation. If your kids are older, like mine, then they'll sit eyes fixed at the stupid stuff showing on the screen. Since I was there myself with them (DH was at a conference), and had no interest in pseudo-gory-cheesy Sci-Fi clips, I really had nothing to do other than consistently remind them to eat once we got the food.

We'd been there in the past and I thought had enjoyed it, so the server may make a big difference. Also, since DH was with me the other times, maybe I enjoyed the kids being zombies so he and I had a chance to talk. But it is loud, the food selection isn't very good (check it out before you go on allearsnet.com) and your parents especially might not like it too much. You can fit 7 in a car as folks mentioned if one can be in a high chair or 3 kids can squeeze together in a standard booth size chair.

This is a MUST TRY at least once. it is classic Disney-magic and you will never see something like it anywhere else.
The clips are the short trailers that were used at the drive ins to advertise the movies. They are hysterical. My "kids" are now teenagers and it's their favorite place--we always have to do it twice each trip.
Unless your children are extrordinarily sensitive to even video game graphics, they will enjoy it.
Start with the burger, fries, and shakes or cherry cokes. And be sure to have a camera ready.
Just try it once, I think it'll become a family tradition.
