This is going to sound funny, but a few days after my tummy-tuck/BA surgery, I noticed my right butt cheek, near my tailbone was going numb. At first I thought it was from all the sitting in the recliner I was doing, but when I get up and walk around it doesn't go away, in fact it's getting worse. It's there constantly now, whether I sit or not. I don't really have pain, other than a little dull ache from walking hunched over for the past week. I asked the nurse at the plastic surgeons office and she said that I would have to talk to the doctor, who won't be in until tomorrow. She said maybe it's sciatica, but I don't really have the pain that's supposed to go with that. I know this is so silly but I'm worried sick! I'm getting all worried and concerned that I'm dying of something now. What the heck would cause numbness of my rear end?

BTW, I've started to feel a lot better the last couple of days! :sunny:

:thumbsup2 Glad that you are feeling better!

When I had my augmentation 3 years ago...I had numerous numb spots. Don't worry, they will heal and the nerves will regenerate (you will definitely know when this happens; it's kinda like little knives being poked into you) It goes away in a matter of days I'm glad to report.

Don't worry.... :goodvibes

But was it numb on your butt?? I know I'm probably worrying over nothing, but it's bugging the crud out of me. I have an itch in that area and no matter how hard I scratch, I can't "get" it! I just hope the numbness doesn't spread anywhere else. Just wonderin' what it could be...

If you had an itch, its not completely numb. ;) It could be sciatia, I had that during my pregnancy and had the same numbness, though not always the shooting pain that is normally associated with it.

With each pregnancy I had, it (sciatica) got worse and worse and worse!
At first it was just numbness down the outer side of my left leg and a little in my butt, and it would start hurting when I stood or walked for too long--whenever I sat, it would ease up alot. I also had the itching sensations that just could not be scratched DEEP enough to get it. How frustrating....

With my last pregnancy (4th one) it started earlier and the shooting pains started and got worse and got the point where they continued even when sitting or lying down. I was ready to kill myself (not literally) and was even considering physical therapy or ANYTHING to relieve the pain, and the all of a sudden, it went away. I know that this doesn't help much because it had to do with pregnancy, but I sure know what you are going through. I am pretty sure it sounds like sciatica. Glad it is easing up on you! :teeth:

Glad you are feeling better. :goodvibes I really can't help you out with the numb bum...but I hope your Dr can. I understand your anxiety over it...I've had those times waiting on the Dr in complete panic (just needing an answer)! You will have to update us. :goodvibes

I've had numb spots that itched...the Dr. said it was caused by allergies.

For sciatica, I had it a bit after my daughter was born and yoga seemed to help, though it could be a while till you can do yoga.

Glad to see you are done with your surgeries...that happened fast!!! You are gonna look so good this summer...perfect time to get it done!!

Sciatica will cause numbness in your butt and partly down the backs of your legs. Not sure if you can (because of your recovery) but I can give you some tips to release the muscle that causes it... PM me if you want it.

I am betting that this numbness is from the nerves in your stomach and breast area being cut. You wouldn't believe where they all lead. I know that after the birth of my son, and subsequent episiotimy, I was getting a tingling on the left side of my scalp any time I was on my period and using a "feminine product" if you know what I mean? I also had a lot of weird sensations for months after my breast biopsies. It's amazing where all the nerves lead to.

I suppose it could be sciatica; however, most people have some pain to go along with that.

Of course I would mention to the doctor (he will probably have a better idea than the nurse) but I BET it is from the cutting and now the nerves are healing.

It is not uncommon for people laying still on an operating table for long periods of time to experience these types of things. I wouldn't do anything to aggravate it at this point. I hope it gets better soon.

I know the feeling you are talking about. I had hip surgery almost 18 years ago and my outer part of my left thigh was tingling or numb for years afterward, due to trauma to the nerves. The leg worked fine, just felt wierd. Every once in awhile it feels that way again, especially if I bump a certain spot.
