Sci-Fi...what to order

After reading reviews it seems MGM doesn't have much to choose from as far as eating. Sci-Fi looks like something the kids would enjoy, eating in the cars ;) . I was wondering about the food and I was wondering about maybe DH and I sharing. Has anyone eaten:

7 Bean Beef Chili
Spinach and Artichoke Dip

BBQ Ribs
BBQ Chicken Breast Sandwich
All American burger

Are the portions big enough that with appetizer and entree we could share and how is the food. Is lunch or dinner better. I was leaning towards lunch around 11:00 but would like comments on this also. This is our first family trip and I need all the advice I can get :goodvibes

Thanks

My husband had the chili as an appetizier in July and he shared some with me and our daughter and we all thought it was good. Served with good tortilla bread chips. This was not on your list, but...stay away from the flat iron steak sandwich.

My extremely picky brother-in-law had the chili and liked it so I would say it's a safe bet.

The BBQ chicken sandwich is good and so is the burger according to my husband. I get the ham sandwich and there's enough meat on there to account for four pigs.

I'm not a huge eater so spliting a meal is always an option with my husband and me. The appetizers are usually pretty big and the entrees aren't anything small either.

We tend to go here for lunch rather than dinner. However, we make it a later lunch since we get to MGM well after opening. It's a great atmosphere whichever meal you choose.

Even though this was not on your list but the shakes are the best! I've had the forest ham and brie sandwich which was good one day and bad another. But I've had the hamburger several times and its always good. The desserts are good also. This happens to be one of my favorite places at MGM, not so much because of the food but the ambiance. I'm a sci-fi fan so this is like heaven to me. (it does get a little chilly, since its so dark, take a lilttle sweater for the kiddies!). :wave2: Enjoy!

We've had the chili appetizer...DH and I shared it...and thought it was pretty good. We've also had the onion rings appetizer...not on your list, I know...and it was HUGE. My family of 5 all were able to share it.

For entrees we've always only ordered the burgers. They're very good, we think. I like that you can get it with your choice of cheese...plus, I get bacon and DH likes that he can get mushrooms on his. It's a decent sized burger. I can't eat a whole one but DH can.

The milkshakes are also good.

Spinach Artichoke Dip was good, as were the hamburgers. My DS thought the steak sandwich was tasty, he ordered the drink with the light up ice cube and really enjoyed it in the darkened restaurant. Their ice cream sundae portions are huge, couldn't finish it. Think it's a fun place, especially for lunch.

As mentioned the burgers are very good. We also enjoyed the onion rings appetizer as well. As far as time goes, the earlier you can get in the better. The crowds get there as soon as the place opens, and since it's so fun to be there no one's in a rush to leave.

Do I have to make a reservation for the Sci Fi for lunch? I am planning to go there at the end of September. Also, how many people can fit in those cars? It will be my wife and two boys (6 & 5). thanks!

I would definitely make a reservation...better safe than sorry. Most of the cars can seat 6...three rows of two.

i had the chili as an appetizer in jan. & as an entree in may. it is fabulous. my fave thing is to have the chili for a meal & get the big bang for dessert. YUM!!!

I have tried the all-american burger. it was good but way overpriced. big enough to share & comes with fries.

I am not a fan of burgers at ALL. But for some strange reason, I got one (a cheeseburger) at the Sci Fi on our last trip to WDW (11/2000) and have to say that was the BEST burger and chocolate shake I've EVER had in my whole life!!!! I don't know if I was just that hungry or what but it really was! I will definitely be eating here on our October trip!

Also, we ate here on our last trip without a PS. Walked up around 2:00 pm I think and only waited 5 mins for a car.

Definately a burger! They are very good (or at least were two years ago...), but more importantly, the Sci-Fi environment cries out for traditional drive in food.

I have to agree the cheeseburgers there are my favorite. I always get them and the onion rings with a vanilla milkshake. one of my favorite lunches and I love sitting in the cars.

If you are on the dining plan can you still get the glowing ice cubes :Pinkbounc And can you get the shakes as your drink or can you just pay extra? We want those glowing ice cubes for the kids and shakes for us ...yummy :teeth:

Sci-Fi is on our must do list for our next trip.

Anyone know how picky they are about ordering from the kiddy menu? Will they let my daughter and I each order a kids cheeseburger and fries. Nothing else on the menu really appeals to me and burgers and fries is good drive-in food. Any adults order off the kids menu recently? Thanks. :earsgirl:

We had the spinach artichoke dip and it was so good! My husband had the ribs and loved them! I went against everything I read and ordered the flat iron steak sandwich...it was awesome :cool1:

The glowing cubes/drinks were not included on the dining plan when we were there. My daughter was able to get a shake though, and we did not have to pay out of pocket for it.

I agree. I decided to try this last time and it was horrible.
But that is the only thing I've had there that I haven't liked. I usually get the BBQ chicken sandwich and it is delicious. My parents loved the reuben. They split it and had more than enough. The burgers and shakes are great too. My sister and I had salads there once, and I remember they were really good. But I don't remember the specific name of the salads we ordered.
