Sci Fi Timeliness

Hi, I've heard quite a few complaints here at DIS that the wait to be seated at Sci Fi can be bad. As a Disney newbie, I'm wondering if this would this hold true for a 11:05 am lunch reservation? Am I naive in thinking we would get seated in a more timely fashion because its one of the first ADRs?

My dilemma is that we are starting in HS that day and really want to eat at Sci- Fi, but we have reservations for the kids at Pirates League in MK at 1:30 that afternoon. I'm leaning towards cancelling our Sci Fi ADR for that day (since the Pirates trump pirate: in our book) but I haven't been able to find any other ADRs for dates/times that work for us well at this late date (we leave for Orlando in 11 days). Sci Fi seems very popular!!

We usually do an early Sci Fi lunch, similar to the time you have selected. We have always been seated timely. Later lunches, the wait drags on but you will be going when the place will be just gearing up and should be empty in there.

Nothing wrong with Scifi if you order basic stuff.

But I will say that every single time I have eaten there it has been very slow (and this is AFTER being seated) and I would say don't do it if you are in a hurry to get somewhere.

My son and I were there about a week and a half ago. We had a 12:50 ADR and were seated within five minutes. We took our time (it is a BIG favoroite of his -- he loves it!) but we could have been done far sooner if we had wanted. Sci-Fi is a "must do" for him each trip. (The food is just so-so in my book but he is THRILLED with the experience.)

I'm going to count myself as lucky here since it has always been a "slam bam thank you maam" situation with us. We've been there, in, ate, and gone in flat no time before. It's always quick for us. Now watch.... now that I have said that next trip it will take forever. :rotfl:

Since we're talking about the Sci Fi restaurant... I can't help but find myself humming the Twilight Zone theme song with your post. :lmao:Good luck next time, hope this hasn't jinxed you! ;)

I thought I felt a shiver down my spine. LOL

To be honest though, in 4 trips to WDW I have only ever waited in a long line twice. That's it. And both of those were for attractions. We have never waited for more than 5 minutes for a table, anywhere. Even on our first trip and I requested a lakeside table at The Rose & Crown. I know.... cool! :cool1: The two attractions were #1, the year Soarin opened we waited 1 hour in line (no FP available by the time we got to it) and #2, Splash Mountain and that was because a little kid was crying outside the queue line. When I found out that the family had to leave the park and didn't have time to ride it and that they had not ridden the ride at all on that trip we let them have our FP's so they could ride before leaving the park. So we waited in a 1.5 hour line. :( Oh well. That kid got to ride a ride he had never got the chance to before he left for home. :thumbsup2

How nice of you! I love stories like this one. :goodvibes

It was actually more of my sons idea. I would have done it myself but he suggested it first. He was 7 years old and thought this way. I am so proud of him. My wife and I have always tried to teach him to think of other first. He's such a cool little dude. :cool2:

We alwasy eat at Sci Fi for lunch during our DHS day. I always try to get the earliest I can such as 11:05, 11:10. I have never had more than a 5 minute wait and we have eaten there at least a dozen times. It's my children's favorite restaurant in all of Disney World.

Last time we went to the SciFi (year before last) the wait for lunch was unreasonable. I think there was a huge family reunion type of party before us and knocked things off their game, but we waited at least a half hour past our reservation time. We didn't go back last year, aren't going back this year.

Last time we went to Sci Fi we arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated in about five minutes.

We will be making a couple of trips to Sci Fi during our next trip in less than a month. We love the atmosphere, and the burgers are pretty darn good! :thumbsup2

Ive never had a long wait at Sci Fi. In fact last time I think i showed up early and was seated right away.

I've never had to wait long for a table but once seated was another story. I've always had slow service. The wait for everything has been terrible every time we've been. It took like 15 minutes to bring our drinks, I remember that well because I was just dying of thirst. It's has always taken like 1 to 1 1/2 hours to eat here. We just ordered basic burgers and sandwiches. Maybe an earlier reservation will be quicker, we usually go around 1-1:30. Good luck.

I would suggest checking in a bit early, and grab menus while waiting. If everyone knows what they want before you get seated, that helps to speed it up. Or check it out online ahead of time, but the key is to be prepared. Also, mention to your server that you are in a bit of a time crunch and they may move things along a bit for you.

I agree with you. Order quickly, and right when the food comes i would suggest asking for the bill, just to be safe.

I absolutely love Sci Fi. i always had a good experience here. Great food, great service. Never had to wait too long.
