Hi all!

Thinking about making a ressie here but my daughters are a little bit of 'Fraidy Cats' ....are the movies shown scary?

Thanks!

They're movie trailers as opposed to full-length movies, but they're largely old sci-fi monster movies. It depends on how sensitive your kids are to what they may see. These are of the "monster is a guy in a rubber suit" variety, and many people find them cheesy and funny...but some young kids do find them frightening. Ultimately, you know your kids best...and if monsters (even silly ones) give them the willies, you may want to skip the Sci-fi.

Honestly, I didn't think so at all. My DD is afraid of everything, and she LOVED this restaurant. I dont remember any scary movies. I remember Tom and Jerry, and a clip with Walt, but nothing that scared my DD, and trust me, she is afraid of monsters inc!!!

It is dark in there, that can be more intimidating that the movies. When we were there when DS was 4, he wasn't a big fan. Depends on your kiddo, my youngest would love it now (he's 3), but personally, I'm not a fan of the food choices.

Growing up I would say I had about an "average" level of fear about things. Sci Fi always freaked me out. I loved their chocolate shakes, so we would still go, but I usually had nightmares afterwards.

We finally ate there on our last trip and enjoyed it. But DD10 - who is usually pretty fearless - does not want to go back. She said that the movie clips kind of creeped her out. I think it was a combination of the movie clips and it being so dark in there. She didn't get upset while we were there or anything. Just said that she'd prefer not to eat there again. If you have doubts about your kids, I'd probably save it for another time.

Thank you all so much...the dark part wouldn't bother them (twins age 8) but I think the monsters would.....

I appreciate all your input! :)

We had to have our food packed up because my ds(5) was too freaked out by the movie clips....if you have kids that frighten easy it would be best to skip it then to risk it...

My DDs loved the Sci Fi diner when they were in grammar school. They are in college now & still enjoy "Our Lunch" at the Sci Fi diner. :dance3:

I guess it depends on their age also. But this is always a "must do" on our list. The kids love eating in the cars, the milkshakes and it is just a nice place to take a break in the middle of the day!

I remember Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space was one of the trailers, so you might want to try finding the trailer online to show your daughter to see if it freaks them out or not ahead of time. I want to say The Island Earth was one of the trailers too but not sure, but it's all the movies on that level of cheese.
Also it's not just trailers, there' s cartoon shorts from that era that involve sci-fi themes and also visit the consession stand & drive-in movie rules commericals.

Just returned from Disney and ate at Sci Fi. DD4 loved it. However, she loves going to the movies. My hubby had ribs. Yummy and falling off the bone. I had a burger. We really enjoyed it.

Go with your gut. If you think your LOs will be frightened, don't do it. Personally, I think they will be fine. However, you know your LOs better than I. :-)

Our 9 year old got scared. So, we didn't go back for years. A few years ago, they seemed to tone it down somewhat with more cartoons interspersed with the scary movies.

My DS had no problem at almost 3 and 5. This is the same kid that is traumatized by riding the Haunted Mansion at age 4.

He loves scary movies though. We have seen quite a few old scary movies (Frankenstein from the 30s, etc.)

Maybe you could watch the film loops on YouTube and keep in mind it is pretty dark in there?

It is so hard to judge with kids...DS not afraid of characters, Sci Fi, T-Rex, scary movies, but terrified of live animals (like cats and dogs-even tiny dogs), the dark, and the Haunted Mansion (but he wanted to watch the Haunted Mansion movie :confused3)

Why don't you make the reservation, but take your kids in to check it out quickly before your dining time. That way if it freaks them out you can cancel and do a quick service, but if not you can go ahead and eat there. My girls are terrified of fireworks and my younger one won't ride HM or ToT but they both love Sci-fi.

You should be ok. I have wimpy kids - scared of fireworks, dark places, loud noises, etc, but they both love Sci Fi. They went at 1 & 4, 3 & 6, and will go again our next trip. They love the cars. I was hesitant the first time, too, but am happy we went.
