My DH really wants to try Sci-Fi this time, but after reading these boards for a while, I'm very hesitant. Can you give me ONLY THE POSITIVES about this place? I've heard the burgers are good. What about the ribs - my DH's favorite anywhere he goes? My biggest concern is the seating. It'll be me, DH, DH's brother, DS2 and DS1. I assume everyone is facing the movie screen. How will that work? Will it feel like we're separated (as I'm sure it'll be me and the kids and DH having fun with his brother ;) )

Like I said before, give me the positives - I've heard enough of the negative. Sway me to give it a try!! Consider it a challenge!:cheer2:

Positives are that it set to look like an old drive in movie theatre. It is dark. You eat in booths that are in cars. The screen is huge and it shows old horror movies. Food was very good. I got a pasta/shrimp dish. These are the positives. On the negative side (I know you didn't want any negatives) I think your little ones would be terrified. It's very dark and they show "monstors" constantly on the movie screen.

You can ask for a table. It is still in a car looking setting. I went with DH, DS9 and DS2. We sat in a car , DH & DS9 sat in front and me and DS2 sat in the back. So to sit in a car you will feel separated. When you go they will ask you car or table in your case you would be better off with the table.

We, too, read all the terrible review about the SCI FI but decided to give it a try anyway. We really enjoyed it. Stick with the burgers/sandwiches and icecream and you will be fine. My kids loved the movie screen and we found it to be very relaxing for them during the heat of the day. I have to disagree
with MagikMom about the little ones being terrified. The old movie clips that are shown are totally benign, IMO. My kids really enjoyed it and we will probably return again this summer.:)

Well, DBF said that his burger was the best he had in WDW-even better than his Beaches & Cream burger. His oreo shake was delicious as well. I liked this place for lunch. We thought the theming was great and I enjoyed watching those movie clips.:)

Ok, I am ready to take up the challenge :thumbsup2

We tried it several years ago and had a great experience. I ignored many of the negatives I read about and followed the advice of many who said "stick to the burgers and shakes". I can say that we had very good burgers and excellent shakes. The atmosphere is well worth the trip. Yes, everyone in the car is facing the screen, but we thought it was fun and not awkward. Believe it or not, we found it to be the quietest of the family-type restaurants we ate at. People actually sit and watch the old sci-fi movie clips.

The bottom line is, that after eating there on our last trip, it was on my kids must do list for our upcoming trip. How is that for positive? :cool1:

I have to say I am a California girl and everytime we crave something from Disney, it's always Sci-Fi's burgers [vergetarian for me and DS and regular meat for the rest of my family] and their onion rings and shakes. We love that place and will be eating there during our May trip. It's fun and the food is great! Kim

We just ate there last week for the 2nd time. We have had the reuben sandwich, ribs and burgers. I liked the burgers the best but the other two were good as well. We also had onion rings and milkshakes, which were great. We love the atmosphere and the fact that it is something different. The kiddies in our party were not at all scared by the darkness nor the movies clips & we had kids that were the ages of 11, 9, 7 and 9 months. we had a group of 9 and they seated us in 2 cars and the kids loved it. Enjoy:thumbsup2

I don't have anything specificly good to say about it but I asked DH where he wanted to eat next trip sci fi or 50's primetime (we have eaten at both). He said he liked sci fi better. So it will be sci fi for us in September.

We love Sci-Fi! DH had been to WDW the summer before we met and had eaten there, so that is why we ate there on our honeymoon. The atmosphere is great and we always go at lunch. We always get the burgers although I may try the pasta next time. It is a nice cool place to escape the heat.
I love the spinich and artichoke dip appetizer.

I didn't read the bad reviews on here until after I had been to Sci-Fi, and since Sci-Fi is a must do for us now, that has taught me that if there is somewhere I am interested in eating, I will try it for myself.

Mission accomplished! I feel much better. Up until now, I felt like DH was going to ruin my Studios day! I'll give it a try! Thanks!

We really enjoyed it at sci-fi last year and have just made an ADR for Aug. DD was 6 then and loved it, our server was fab with her. We all enjoyed the food - I had ribs which were yum. Can't wait to go back.:yay:

We went in August and give thumbs up to the burgers, milkshakes and appetizers. Since you only want positives, I won't tell you about the ribs. I also think you would be much more comfortable separating the kids and having one sitting with you and one sitting with DH. DH's brother can have his own seat. I shared with DD4 last year and would not have wanted to squish another child in. It's easy to talk to the person in front of/ behind you, not so easy is they are 2 seats away. You could sit in the front with one child, DH in the middle with one, and the brother in the back or something like that. Have fun!:wizard:

The Sci Fi is our families favorite restaurant and we try to eat here twice every trip. I know that many think the food is awful but we have never been disappointed with it and the desserts are great. Our family has been going here for several years. Our boys were Jr. high and high school age and think that sitting in the cars and watching the movies is a real kick. There are other restaurants that we don't care for and others love so it just depends on personal opinion. My son gets the ribs every time and likes them. I got the shrimp pasta our last trip and thought that it was really good. Seating is not a problem for us. The boys sit in the back seat and my husband and I sit in the front. The movie clips and commercials are a real hoot. We love to watch the old black and white movies any way so we all are happy with this place. we also eat lunch here and like it better than the dinner menu that we have eaten once.

The Blob Song rocks.

So does the BLT soup and the alcoholic milkshakes. My favorite is the oreo one. I always go for lunch.

They show cartoons, and the world's tackiest monsters. Unless your kid is extremely sensitive they shouldn't be disturbed by the movie clips.

We love the theme of this restaurant. My kids love sitting in the cars and watching the old movies.

I know you asked for positives only, but you asked about the ribs. I had the ribs and thought them a bit tough (think beef jerky). I'm not saying they are always like that, but they were that night.

Will we go back -- yes, regardless of the food.

My 11 year old son had the ribs last month and it was his favorite meal of the trip! You have to get the milkshakes - they are the best ones we had on our trip! The reubens are very good too!

The decor is so cute! Stick with milkshakes and sandwiches and you'll be great. They also have awesome margaritas and spinach and artichoke dip!

We loved it!

I would diffinetly go with the car though. It is part of the "experience". I don't think it would be the same if you were at a table.

Not such a good picture, but it shows the seating. I sat in the front seat with DS1 (almost 2) and DH sat in the second seat with DS12. We were still close enough to talk to eat other normally.

We just couldn't look lovingly into each other's eyes... but with a little one that doesn't happen no matter what direction we are facing...

They also had cars with 3 rows of seats.

DS1 loved the movies. Heck it helped with the pre dinner entertainment!

No, he is not scared in this picture... He is just expressing his need for a nap and not wanting to take his eyes off the movie to look at me for the picture. Another plus for this resturant! If you have little ones that are not always the quietest, the movie kind of masks it.

They also mix in cartoon type sci-fi clips which DS loved! They don't show full movies only clips and none of which were scary for DS.

One last picture...

We give it a :thumbsup2 ! The food we had was also good, even though I don't remember what we ate.
