Sci-Fi or Starring Rolls?

I'm less than 2 weeks out to make our ADR's. The only thing I can't decide on is our day at DHS. We're planning on doing the DDP and I know we're doing 50's PT for dinner. DH and I haven't been to WDW in over 20 years so we don't know much about the restaurants. I keep hearing about how awful the CS restaurants are at DHS, so I've been contemplating paying OOP at Sci-Fi. It's either OOP there or possible CS at Starring Rolls b/c it seems to be the most acceptable of the mediocre CS at DHS.

So is Sci-Fi worth paying OOP or would you go with CS at Starring Rolls (or somewhere else?).

Personally, our family loved the Backlot Express for lunch. So much, that my son specifically asked to go there, as he loved the grilled turkey and cheese sandwich.

You didn't mention the size or ages of your party, but I'd recommend there. We actually didn't mind Pizza Planet either, but with 3 kids, pizza is always an option.

Another thing to remember when doing ADRs for DHS is depending on the evening try to get the Fantasmic dinner packages. It saves a lot of time and effort with the reserved tickets.

We did sci fi oop last time. Just had a burger each, a milkshake and a cherry coke.

DD was almost 4 and shared with me - burger was large with tons of fries.

We got her a light up tink drink - those are not included on ddp anyway so it was a good chance to get one and it worked well in the dark restaurant.

I think we paid $40 plus tip for lunch.

We are doing the same next month. My daughter loved the sci fi - that and coral reef are the two she has asked to go back to.

I am going with my fam this year and had the same questions! Here is what I decided on for my Fantasmic Day:

All the TS restaurants were booked until after Fantasmic, so I scheduled 50's right after the show. I LOVE 50's, so I was completely ok with that. I am planning on Starring Rolls for lunch. However, we will get hungry before dinner, so I scheduled a 3pm ressie at Sci-Fi for a snack! We will probably get 2 burgers and the combo appetizer with 2 shakes for a family of 5. The kids will split one burger, fries, and a shake. Hubby and I will split one burger, app, and a shake. That should hold us over.

THAT WAY WE GET TO DO BOTH!!!!

Oh, and FYI, when DH found out that Kouzzina was owned by an Iron Chef, we had to change our 50's to Kouzzina! :lmao:

We had lunch there this past February and we have an ADR there this coming February! We have since upgraded to the DxDP, but had we not, I was planning on paying OOP for lunch at Sci-Fi. Is the food spectacular? No. It is good, though, and my husband and I found the theming to be incredible. I really felt as though we were someplace else...a drive-in California in the '50's, perhaps? :rotfl:

Also, had lots of baked goods at Starring Rolls and loved them all! Their cupcakes are one of the best uses of a snack credit, IMO.

For years I would not return to Sci Fi, not to good overpriced food. Yet a few years ago on a very hot October day, DH, DD, 2 DGC and I were melting and AC and a light lunch sounded good.

We kept it light, burgers, fries and a drinks. Kids love their milkshakes. It's back on my list so we are returning in September for lunch.

Starring roll was the only place I'd eat during those Stay away from all DHS restaurants, just remember they have limited pre-made sandwiches, also California, veggie, shrimp and full moon rolled wraps, plus sushi. It also CS and you eat outside in a small patio area. Yummy pastries and good coffee. This place is great for an afternoon pick-me-up stop, or meals.

We do Sci-Fi for lunch every year. The food is good and you can't beat the atmosphere. A nice break that is fun.

I always look forward to eating at starring roles.

It is a very good sandwich, I usually get it for breakfast when I go to DHS.
I am usually not the only one having a ham sandwich and cappuccino at 10AM.

The cupcakes are also excellent, but I think the Butterfinger one is a little overrated.
There is just not enough cake to it.
It has a chocolate center to the cake and it would be better if it was all cake IMO.

You also get a bag of Miss Vicki's chip that come in 20 flavors you can save for a snack.

I think you will be happy with it and save quite a few dollars.

Disney Dad- It's just me and my husband. Leaving the kids at home with their grandparents.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. I still can't decide. :rotfl2: Maybe I'll make an ADR for lunch there just in case and then cancel it if I am not in the mood the morning we're at DHS. :confused3

I always enjoy the atmosphere at Sci Fi. The food is acceptable, not special, if you stick to the basics.
