Sci-Fi or Hollywood & Vine?

Hello,

We are a family of 4 (DH, myself, twin DD3s). We will be taking the girls for their first WDW trip in about 5 weeks. My in-laws will be with us also.

On our last Saturday there, we will be spending the morning at DHS. Right now, we have a lunch ADR at Sci-Fi Dine In. DH and I ate there this past July and liked the experience. We really like drive ins and thought it was something different and fun. We think my in-laws would like it there too.

However, I've been thinking about switching to Hollywood & Vine for the Disney Jr. characters. The girls love Oso and Little Einsteins and like Handy Manny. I figure we are in the sweet spot for those characters and that now would be the time. Once they get even a couple more years older, I don't think they would be interested. My concern here is the reviews I have read concerning the food. I thought the food at Sci-Fi was fine but I've read some horrible reviews of H&V. One more point to consider, they have a few other character meals planned while we are there (CRT, CM, 1900PF dinner, TH breakfast, Akershus) so they will have some character interaction, just not these specific characters.

So, do I keep Sci-Fi or switch to H&V (either breakfast or lunch)?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

We did H&V for lunch and to be honest it wasn't very nice. We are simple eaters and definitely not food snobs but it really was a let down in the food department. Worse place we ate. On the other hand we did it mainly for the character so we were glad we have done it but wouldn't go back.

We did Sci-Fi last week. We loved it, and will probally go back next time. That being said, a friend of mine did H&V and stated that this was by far the WORST meal he has EVER had @ WDW, and would not go back. His experience was gross food and dirty resturant. Taking his experience into account, and thinking how much DH, DD9 and I enjoyed Sci-Fi, my vote is for Sci-Fi. The new menu was pefect lunch-time meal, and the milkshakes for desert- Yummy!

Lunch at Sci-Fi is one of the things I look forward to the most each trip. So, I'd have to pick that. :)

H&V was also the worst meal of our trip. Sci fi was great! And my kids (5 and 18 mos) loved sci fi!

Have fun!

Sci-Fi is a lot of fun (remember drive-in's?) and the food is good as well.

I'd let your touring plan make the decision for you.

If a TS breakfast would work better with your touring plan, then do H&V breakfast. As you note, the twins are the perfect age and these characters have a VERY short window. You can get a tween or even a teen to enjoy a meal with a Princess. A meal with a Little Einstein? Not so much.

But if a TS lunch would work better for your touring style then keep Sci-Fi unless you also have some concerns that the movies and the darkness would scare the twins.

We have done Sci-Fi more times than I can remember, and it's fun. We are going in December, and I asked my DD if we should make a ADR for Sci-Fi for our DGS (3). She said he wouldn't "get it." So we'll save that for another trip. We did have breakfast at H&V in February, and he LOVED that. The character interaction there is very good. The service was fine. And the food was typical breakfast buffet. There was plenty of it, and it tasted fine. We are going again in December.

My twins LOVED Sci-fi. The park was super crowded, the day wasn't going well but then we went to Sci-fi and the day was saved! So much fun to get the glowing tinkerbell drinks! The twins were great, so much to look at. Have fun.:goodvibes

I would do Sci Fi. Other than the characters, there is nothing special about H&V. Plus the kids will be meeting plenty of other characters since you have a lot of character meals planned. Sci Fi is a unique experience and you can only eat at a place like this in Disney!

Hollywood and Vine was also the worst meal I have had in disney. Lunch we tend to do 50's Prime time.... My daughter loves that place and the food is good.

Another vote for Sci-Fi. Really disappointed with HV.

H&V was the worst meal we had back in 2007 - looks like our experience is commonplace. We have never been back since. I would avoid it.

We've gone to Sci-Fi during each visit - we look forward to it. Food is good (not great) and the atmosphere is awesome.

Thanks Everyone!

The majority have confirmed my thoughts. I'm going to keep the Sci-Fi reservation and not give it another thought. I really need to stop second guessing the decisions I've made for this trip!
