Sci Fi or Beaches and Cream?

With two Disney adults (age 10) I realise we need to eat somewhere that they will enjoy during our 6 day trip.

I can do either Sci Fi or Beaches and Cream.I know some people would think these a waste of our credits but we are on the free DDP.

Both my kids favorite foods are burgers, shakes and icecream. So which one? and why?

We only have 2 park days planned during the trip so if we do Sci-Fi we would get lunch and then do another TS for dinner later that evening. DH and I have places we want to eat. We have never eaten at any TS at Disney before!

I am thinking lunch around 11.30am and then dinner 7.30pm?

If we do beaches, anytime it's not busy?

Thanks for any help.

Angie

Well my kids love Sci Fi. We love to eat lunch there, the burgers are great as are the shakes. But its really about the atmosphere. My kids love sitting in the car watching those corny old movie clips. If your kids love burgers than I cannot imagine they would not love Sci Fi. And I don't think of Sci Fi or any other place you want to eat as a "waste". Granted some places have more expensive food so you feel like you are getting a better deal. But if your kids don't want to eat the food, why bother? And if its free dining than you cannot go wrong. Beaches and Cream is also supposed to have great food, I don't think the atmosphere is all that special (we tried to eat there once but it was too packed). And since its not at a park that can add time to the whole process. Just make sure you make ADR's! During free dining all restuarants get packed and will turn away walk ins.

I would have to go with Sci Fi as well. My daughter begged to go back after our last trip and I tried to tell her without the reservations we couldn't go back. The atmosphere is a blast. The burgers and shakes are good. We love Beaches and Cream as well, but for us it would be Sci Fi hands down if we had to chose one.

Here is my vote for Beaches and Cream. This is where we always have our first meal of our trips to WDW - even if we aren't going to a park. The portions are large and we plan to use only 2 TS credits for the three of us and share.

I don't know if this matters( it did for my kids) but, You can purchase the drinks at SI-Fi with glow in the dark ice cubes I think for about $4. My kids think they got the world and can keep the cups and ice cubes for any other time. We have not been to Beaches but our friends go every year and love it. We liked the food at SI-FI and loved the burgers.

Beaches and Cream, hands down...the best burger I've ever had!!!

Another vote for Sci Fi you have to go at least once. It was neat. My kids liked it. :thumbsup2

Ooohh, two of my brood's favorites! My kids love Sci Fi and request it every time we are at Disney. Especially my 10 year old. He is so into the atmosphere and movie clips.

That being said, Beaches and Cream is also a family favorite. It is very small. And if I remember correctly they don't take ADRs. (At least at lunch time) It was walk up and wait. So we waited and waited. We finally couldn't wait any longer and took 5 seats at the counter. But the burgers and sundaes were out of this world. Ummm!

For atmosphere: Sci-Fi :scared1: (just silly scary)
For Burgers: Beaches and Cream

It's hard to predict the crowds at Beaches and Cream, depends on the time of year but you could call ahead and ask them if there is a wait :rolleyes1 .
:offtopic: Spectromagic, congradulations on your 1000 post!!! :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2:

We did both last trip:

B&C: Not terribly impressed. For "the best burger" it was a bad burger. Ice cream wasn't great either. What was very disappointing was the value, we weren't on the dining plan and I really felt when we left, the $60 bill should have been $40 (and I'm not a big complainer about Disney prices). We waited 20 minutes to get seated at 3pm, had the slowest waitress in the world (with an attitude) and the restaurant was (IMO) dirty. It is, however, really popular, so perhaps we were just there at an "off" time. We won't go back.

SciFi: My expectations for food here were nil, and my expectations for value were also nil. I'd heard about bad overpriced food. And the food exceeded my dismal expectations (which is to say it wasn't bad, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad) and the bill was high - but there was alcohol in the milkshakes so we didn't care. The atmophere rocked, though, and my kids want to go back. We will go back.

We really liked the burgers at B&C, some of the best on property that we've had. However, we didn't care for the kitchen sink... yuk... too much stuff.

We have not eaten at Sci-Fi, but I've been by there and seen many many pictures. However, if I had to chose one to use the DP I'd go with Sci-Fi. First, you can get an ADR, whereas it could take a long time to get in B&C. You'd also be in a less cramped environment with more of an atmosphere.

HTH and enjoy your trip! :)

We did both and they seemed about the same but the atmosphere at Sci Fi is a lot of fun for the kids!!

I will have to chime in for Beaches and Cream. The chicken sandwich was delicious and the Fudge Mud Slide was to die for. When I made ressies for Sci-Fi I thought my family would love the atmosphere, but they didn't like having to turn around in the car all the time to talk. Go figure! I thought it was pretty neat, but we only had dessert and it was just ok. Sticking with MGM they loved 50's Prime Time Cafe if you don't have that on your list.

I agree with crisi's review below.

B&C: During our Dec 2005 visit, B&C had one of the worst burgers I have ever eaten. And I'm sure we had the same waitress as crisi with the bad attitude. No excuse for that. We left feeling terrible. Bad food, terrible service, high prices for fast food. We are nice people. We didn't deserve the treatment we got at B&C. While I have fond memories of B&C from our previous trips buying take-out ice cream and sitting at the too-cute ice cream cone tables, I am reluctant to ever dine inside B&C again. And I will never order lunch. It's ice cream only from now on. It took forever to be seated during value season. The food was overpriced and tasted like old meat. Sorry to have to give such a negative review. We were expecting "the best burger" and got the worst. No one was more shocked than we were. The place is crowded, cramped, and noisy, but if you offer great service and decent food, this atmosphere can be fun.

As for Sci-Fi. Our last visit there was in 2002, so not sure how it is now. Sci-Fi's atmosphere is awesome! Everyone LOVED IT! Despite all the advice I read here about skipping lunch and going for dessert only, we were hungry and ordered lunch. Bad decision. There were 4 of us. We ordered four different lunch entrees. ALL were bad. Two of us could barely eat our lunch. I vowed after that, dessert only. Can't wait to return for the atmosphere though.

IMO the food at B&C blows Sci-Fi's food out of the water. The atmosphere at Sci-Fi would probably be more exciting for children, though. I would also suggest visiting www.allearsnet.com and going to the "rate & review" section at the top of the page. They have all of the restaurants rated by visitors along with their comments.
