Sci-Fi or 50's?

Trying to decide on a TS restaurant in HS for a late dinner. Lunch is at Mama and we ate at Brown Durby before (while good, we'd like to try something else... but may be convinced to do the Durby again). Also ate at H&V for character lunch before.

I've heard reviews that 50's is better than Sci-Fi in terms of the food, but when I look at the menus, Sci-Fi seems more appealing. I'd appreciate any opinions or reviews you'd like to share for a family with two little girls. TIA!

We were just there for lunch on Tuesday. We really liked it. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer, and they were really good. We both also ordered chocolate milkshakes which we shared with the boys.... they don't have kid size shakes. We both had the cheeseburger and black bean relish as a side dish. The burgers had cheese, onion, mushrooms, bacon, lettuce and tomato. It was seriously one of the best burgers I have ever had. I didn't care for the black bean "relish" at all. I could have chosen fries instead, but since we had onion rings, I wanted something else. I just asked dh if he liked it, and he said, "yes."

I ordered the kid's complete meal for my 3 year old. He chose tomato soup (he loves soup) and it was sooooo good. He ate it all. His meal was a cheeseburger and fries... which he took about 2 bites of. He was full from the soup, and busy watching the movies. It also came with a sundae, that the baby ended up eating.

From what I understand, the cheeseburger is not on the dinner menu, but you can request it. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was so fun. My 3 year old turned around and looked towards the kitchen, and said, "That is where the martians live." :) (He was getting into those old time cheesy movies.) We would definitely go again.

I would go with sci-fi. We love both but sci-fi is one of my kids favorites. The cool cars and drive in movie theme is great for kids and the burgers are good too.

Last May we ate at both. I liked both. My daughter on the other hand has requested Sci-fi for her birthday trip since we will be on QSDP. Sci-fi was actually cheaper also than the other trip but the kids had floats and dessert at Primetime.

Thank you for your comments! It sounds like Sci Fi should be the choice. :thumbsup2

We're going back to both this year. We had no complaints from either with the food or service. DS8 wanted to go back to SiFi because he wanted to sit in a car and watch the movies again. I think they have refillable milkshakes there but I could be wrong about that. Anyway, they're both great restaurants in my opinion.

We love the 50's. It's the only thing we do every single trip. But Sci Fi is cool to do every now and then for the atmosphere.

Food's better at the 50s. Atmosphere is more unique at Sci Fi.

The one thing I'd note is it's really dark and hard to hold a conversation in those cars.

We are doing both on our upcoming trip. I'm really looking forward to Sci Fi because the last time I ate there was on my honeymoon which was ten years ago!!!

We loved Sci-Fi! We ate there for the 1st time on our December 2009 trip and loved it! It is a must-do for us now!

We ate at both our last trip but it's hard to compare because we ate at SciFi for lunch and 50's for dinner. I preferred 50's because I liked the food better, but like I said we had lunch at SciFi so it seemed more like an expensive CS meal. One thing I didn't like about SciFi was sitting in the car. There was three of us, so DH and I sat in one row and DS was in front of us with his back to us. We got an appetizer to share and it was hard for DS to share with us because he had to turn around to get any of it. Plus it was hard to talk to DS because he had his back to us the whole time.

I have been to both and love both...so either one will be a great pick...but i have to tell you that 50's really brought my family together during a meltdown day and we had lots of laughs over our server treating us like "family" :goodvibes the atmosphere at both are very different and fun for different reasons

"meltdown day"
I love that phrase!

I had a hard time choosing which for this vacation, too--we've never done 50s but love SciFi.... So, I just broke down and got SciFi for lunch w/ a "snack" at 50s. Onion rings, milkshakes, etc. Should work out :)

We also do both on every trip!! I prefer the food at sci-fi but I am a burger and fry type of girl. My husband prefers the food at 50's...the kids love them both!! We have a party of 10 this sept so I'm thinking 50's is gonna be great!! Depending on the atmosphere you are looking for...imho is how you should decide. If you are easy when it comes to eating you will find something at either place!! Good luck and have a great vaca!!:)

The food is a little better at 50s, but I really love the atmosphere at Sci-Fi. I'd go with Sci-Fi.

Sci-Fi is Awesome. This has become a must do for us when we visit the World.

Sci Fi is our favorite... this past Christmas we had ADR's there at xmas eve, eve... we were leaving xmas eve, well we had ADR's right before HS closed. So, we just had milkshakes, hung out for a bit and watched the movies.. and then when we left Sci Fi the park was just about empty, we walked around looking at the Osbourne Lights for quite a while with hardly no one in the way, while the CM's were dancing and singing carols... it was one great memory!!!! We never liked 50's diner... my kids just don't like the environment...

For me, it's 50's all the way! I love the decor and I love watching the snippets of the television programs (def. can't find shows like those anymore!) I feel to, that 50's is cozier and more 'homey' than Sci-Fi.

We LOVED our server...i cannot remember his name, but a dark haired guy from new hampshire...he cracked us up...he put my younger cousin (17 yrs old) in the corner for texting at the table and it was the first time I had seen her smile our entire trip!
