We are a family of four, two girls ages 9 and 6. We have never eaten at either of these but want to pick one for our upcoming trip. Is one better for the kids or does one have much better food? Just wondering everyone's thoughts...

Thanks

We have been trying to pick between the two ourselves. I am interested in the opinions.

IMO 50s PTC has better food and a more fun atmosphere. SF definitely has a great atmosphere, but I didn't really enjoy the food. Now I read they have GREAT burgers at lunch time, but we ate there for dinner and weren't impressed. As I always recommend, I would check out the menus for both places on www.allearsnet.com and see what you can imagine yourself or your kids eating to make the final decision.

50's hands down! We love their food compared to Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi's atmosphere is a bit better but the atmosphere at 50's is pretty good as well. You'll have a blast at 50's if you get a fun waiter/waitress.

I agree with you 110%. Love 50's Pot Roast!

50's food was good the last time I ate there in Dec & Sci-Fi was just as good back in June.

Sci-Fi is neat just because you get to sit in what looks like a car & watch silly, corny movies. I love their fries & milkshakes.

50's is cool because of all the attention you get. My daughter (11 at the time) had to sing "I'm a little tea pot" because she didn't finish her meal. My hubby had to stand with his forehead touching the wall & tell people he didn't eat all his veggies. If you can handle the attention then go for it. Some people are shy or embarassed, my step-daughter would die if they told her to do anything like that. I think it's funny myself, then again I eat everything on my plate ;)

I'm in my late 40's & I totally get both.

I think either one you choose you'll enjoy and have something to talk about after you leave :)

Thank You! Our plane leaves tomorrow night and arrive in Orlando around 9:55AM, hopefully will be at the MK around 12:30/1PM if all goes well!:cool1:

We like both!

Sci Fi for lunch - great burgers, cool/dark atmosphere - very fun eating in a car & watching the old movie clips.

50's PTC for dinner - food is better at 50's for dinner - love the pot roast :thumbsup2 Really neat eating in a 50's style kitchen and the cm's can be alot of fun if they're into playing their roles.

You can get the pot roast for lunch and dinner, the only major difference between lunch/dinner at 50's are the sandwiches are not available at dinner time instead they have a steak, pork loin dish, and something else.

I have had good meals at both.

From a food only perpective the food at 50's is slightly better buuuuuutttt the atmosphere at Sci Fi can not be beat!

So if given a choice, esp with kids, I would pick Sci Fi.

We just went to 50's Prime Time in May - my girls were 9 and 6 at the time. They are still talking about that meal! They loved the guy at the next table being sent back to the bathroom to check the soap color, and they kept putting their elbows on the table on purpose and giggling hysterically when the server would look over at them. It was DD10's first choice for our next trip, and it was DD6's second choice behind breakfast with the princesses. It was a bit hit, and the food was good!

We have only done Sci-Fi one time, and it was a few years ago. The burgers and shakes were good, but everything else we tried was average at best. After the novelty of the car seating wore off, the girls weren't very interested in the movies playing.

50's Prime Time is much more intereactive, instead of sitting in the dark watching movies while you eat. We will be making ADR's for 50's Prime Time in a few weeks for our January trip.

While I agree, 50s Primetime can be a blast with a good cast member, the reverse is true as well. I have been there at least 10 time in my lifetime, and 1/2 the time the CMs were boring, and just served the food, barely spoke to us. Made me nuts, as we could see and hear other wait staff going crazy and having fun at nearby tables. In desperation, my kids even tried feeding these servers lines, like asking where the bathroom was, etc. I realize they cannot do the exact same thing all the time, I get it, I mean that these severs on more than one occassion, did NOTHING special.

My family loves Sci Fi, it is our FIRST priority when making our PS arrangements. (they are past the character meal stage). We love the movie clips, and how the servers shout out some of the lines, etc

Both are winners, don't get me wrong. But we gave up on Primetime a few years ago.

I had to stand in the corner for putting my elbows on the table! :lmao:

Love the S'mores dessert at 50's. Yummmmm

We have had great CM's that made it a blast in there and at other times some who had no enthusiasm whatsoever.

I have only eaten at 50's Prime Time; and while I love, love, love the atmosphere- the food leaves a lot to be desired. I have eaten both the meatloaf and the chicken pot pie: both were very bland.

Unfortunately, I do not think that DHS has a decent restaurant anywhere. Yes, the Brown Derby is a step above the rest..but it's overpriced for sure.

Still......obviously we don't always visit for the food..;)

PT has better food, but sci-fi was so much fun when I was a kid. Well, it's still fun, but I loved it even more when I was younger.

We've eaten at the 50's Prime Time three times, and twice the server just wasn't into it. But we eat at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater every time we go.

And you can get the burgers for dinner as well. You have to ask, but you can get them.
