We are going to DHS on our arrival day. We should get to the park around 3-3:30pm. We will have 4 adults and 2 children (5&6). We want to be able to see as much as we can, but we will be going back again durring our trip for at least a half day. For food and atmosphere, which would you chose - Sci-Fi or 50s Prime Time?

Or, should we forget a sit down on our first night, and just get something at CS?

TIA

They are both pretty great experiences, when you make your decision I would recommend getting your reservations right away. Really it boils down to what you are in the mood for. We prefer the menu at 50's prime time menu (the Meatloaf is fantastic), but had more fun at Sci-Fi. Sitting in the car "table" watching old movies on the giant drive-in screen was a lot of fun.

They are both really neat atmospheres, with fairly good food.
It depends on what type of people you are...if you prefer to eat in peace, and are not really into all of the "shenanigans", then I suggest sci-fi...nice relaxing meal in a car, watching old films...pretty cool.

If you are a comical bunch up for a good laugh and hearty , engaging fun, go with 50's! (Hope this makes sense).

The kids would probably like Sci-Fi more IMO. Not sure if kids really understand 50s Cafe. Also, you can order the burger at dinner, just ask them. We always get the burger and shakes (yummy!) there.

Just one heads up on 50's Prime Time - the experience can vary greatly depending on where you are seated and the waitstaff. We've had a great time sitting in one of the "kitchen table" settings, but were seated once at a regular table with a waiter who was just a waiter and it was really disappointing. Sci Fi experience isn't as dependent on the staff for enjoyment.

Price-wise it would be comparable.
I'd say Sci Fi... and kids would probably really enjoy it.
We like both restaurants.

As for 50's being fun and joking around... ya know, I keep reading that on here, but out of the 6 times we've eaten there, not once did we have a server joke around with us or anythign funny at all. And we're not sitting there like a bunch of sourfaces, so not sure why. One time I saw from a distance a table having fun with their server. There have been times my kids put their elbows on the table on purpose and other stuff waiting for the server to mess with them.... to no avail. So just saying, don't base decision on hopes that servers will be into antics. Granted, my kids really enjoy it there at 50's also.... but I think Sci Fi would be a neater, more unique experience for the kids and all!

with a 3:30 arrival time, and the park closing at ?? time (let's assume 9pm) and having traveled most of the day prior, i'd say go w/CS and do sit-down another day... if your kids want to ride the biggies* (ToT, RnR, TSMM) you are going to be spending a lot of time in line arriving that late in the day... if your kids opt for the shows, you will likely have to choose between LMA or B&tB as that late in the day you will likely be limited...

*is there a Fantasmic that night? if so, during it, if you choose to miss it, is a great time to ride some rides w/smaller lines as the show funnels away the crowds...

if you opt to just do the smaller attractions (Star Tours, Mermaid, Disney Jr, Muppets, etc) then you could probably do dinner at either...

if it is important to your family to meet Mickey right away, DHS is a great place as he's available all day... usually w/reasonable wait time :)

Before you decide on dinner, it's good to decide what else is important to you that afternoon/evening...

I agree with the above. 50's has better food, but the kids would probably enjoy SciFi a lot more. It all depends if you want peace and quiet, or shenanigans. Your kids might not be into the antics at 50's. Considering their ages i'd probably pick Sci Fi. And yes, they can give you the burger at dinner, just ask!

If you want a sit-down meal, it's hard to beat Sci Fi. My kids love sitting in the cars and watching the silly movie clips. Hubs and I like the fun cocktails and good food.

But I think you're onto something with your question about CS. Every family is different, but I find that my kids are so excited to see and do on our arrival day (which is typically a shorter day for us) that CS works best for us.
