Hi there-

We are trying to decide between the Sci Fi and the 50's Prime Time Cafe for dinner before seeing the Fantasmic show. We have 3 boys: twin 6 year olds and one 2 year old. Which one is more entertaining for kids this age? Are either of them scary or intimidating to young kids? Also, how far in advance of showtime do people recommend getting in line for Fantasmic. We were planning to see the show on April 30th (as a reference for crowds, etc.). Thanks for the advice!

Originally, we were trying to figure out which one would be better for lunch (we have 2 boys, ages 3 and 5). We decided to go with 50s Prime Time because of the family feel there. I have never been to either one though, just going by what I have read here.

Then, we decided to add in another lunch at Sci-Fi on our second DHS day, since we really did want to try both. I asked here about it, and people said it is not scary for little ones. In fact, my boys love cars and I think that sitting in a car for lunch will be very amusing to them!

I also hear that they tend to "bother" you at 50s Prime Time, like if you don't finish your veggies, if you have your elbows on the table, etc. DH and I eat this stuff up (no pun intended!), so that's why we initially chose 50s PT.

As far as Fantasmic, I am not sure...someone else will be able to give you an answer I'm sure!

Can't speak to your Fantasmic question. I think you'll have fun at either place, but Sci-Fi is super entertaining and fun. I also liked the food there better, for what it was. We had burgers and shakes and they were awesome. The cars are super cool, as were the movie reels.

Your experience at Primetime depends A LOT on the server you get. Some are really into their role and interact with the patrons a lot, while others are just efficient servers. Obviously, that's OK, too, but if you're looking for the whole you're part of the family experience at Primetime, bear in mind you might not get it.

No matter what, Sci-Fi will be fun. Also the movie reels are so old I can't imagine my DS, age two and half, being afraid.

We've been to both 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi and have really enjoyed our experiences. I think your twins will LOVE the indoor Drive-In at Sci-Fi but if your 2 year old is still in a high chair you might want to go with 50's Prime Time. At Sci-Fi they have to roll a high chair up next to your car so the baby will feel a little left out since the rest of the family will actually be sitting inside the car. We took our DD twice when she was still in a high chair and she didn't like the fact that she wasn't at the table with us like she is at the other restaurants. The high chairs there have their own separate tray - they're not like the wooden ones at other places. At 50's Prime Time your whole family will be at the table together and the decor is like a 50's kitchen. We love both places so I'm sure whatever you choose, you'll have a great time. :-)

Personally, we like the food at 50's Prime Time better.

We were just in Disney last month. My kids (ages 2, 5, and 7) loved the Sci Fi. It was their favorite restaurant. My little guy loved being in a car. My husband and I thought the film clips were wicked funny. Definitely would go back again.
We were at the 50's Primetime Cafe on our last trip and they have the best desserts.

My family prefers Sci fi to 50's, we like the burgers and milkshakes (and I love the beef and blue salad), they love the cars and the dark, relaxing atmosphere. 50's was fine, but being from Texas, grandma "fixes" a lot of that "homecookin" and it wasn't special to us...we had a fun waitress one time (but her antics stressed out my Mom). We are just sci-fi folks!

I would think sci-fi. Im a bit concerned that the waitress telling us to get elbows off the table and stuff like that would not be too much fun. Im going with sci-fi for our next trip (although the fried chicken at prime time looks delicious!)

Totally depends on your kids, imo. Sci Fi is a little it dark, but if you know your kids won't be bothered by it, then you'll be fine. PTC is more of a 'stage performance' so they interact a lot with the kids, do some light teasing, etc. If you think your kids will be bothered by that, I'd skip it.

I enjoyed the food at the PTC, but I wasn't a fan of the act. I like to be left alone when I eat, but the ressies we made there were made by someone else in our group.

Get in line for the show at least 30 minutes before the show. Maybe a little sooner if the park is crowded that day. The seats in the back of the stadium are great, I prefer them. No need to get a front row seat.

I think they would enjoy Sci-Fi. The movie trailers, the cars you dine in, etc...would be entertaining for most boys. I love 50's Prime Time, but I don't remember it being especially "fun" for young boys. The food is delicious at both.

I agree with your comment about the server. Ours didn't say *anything* except for taking our order, even though I didn't touch the vegetable (which were horrible).
I found that to be very weird, because I think they should know that most people go there because of the 50s experience.
