I think that the Sci-Fi would be a fun place for my DSis and her family. However, her DD has Downs and has a noise sensitivity. How loud is the Sci-Fi?

Its been a couple years but I remember it being fairly noisy. The servers yell at certain points in response to what's being shown on the screen.

We went last July for dinner and it was quiet except for the sound of the movie. It was weird because no one was really talking at all....as though we were in an actual movie theatre. Even our waiter spoke to us in a hushed voice. Also during our visit, none of the CMs shouted at the screen. One thing that did bother my young kids was the sci fi movies they showed. Nothing scary but I guess they weren't use to it.

At lunch in April it was pretty darn loud. The movie reels are pretty loud and then people trying to talk. It didn't bother me but I would've liked it slightly more quiet.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Its more of the movies that are playing than anything else, quite a fun place to eat.

it's always eerily quiet when we go - but we always get the first lunch seating - seems once we're done eating and are leaving, the place is filled up and beginning to get a little bit more animated

I agree with the word noisy..it all adds to the ambience..its not the kind of place for a romantic meal . . . thats for sure..!

I agree with "noisy" but not loud. This one is my preferrance, however, my DS doesn't seem to object too much. I love the ambiance of the place.!

I've only been there once with a party of 14, including 8 kids. It was our quietest meal of the entire trip. I don't think the kids said a word during the entire meal, they were just staring at the screen, mesmerized. It gave the adults some time for quiet conversation. There was no yelling by any of the servers. This was for dinner during the summer free dining.

Funny, we commented how sci fi was the quietest place we ate. We were there for lunch and we thought it was a great place to go midday because it was so dark, cool and quiet. I didn't think the sound from the movies was loud and their was virtually no "people" noise. We stuck to burgers and shakes and really enjoyed it - going back again this trip. The theming is really fun and the kids (ok,me too) found it fun to sit in the "cars".

We find it noisy at times. It really depends on the people there since the movie volume seems to be pretty consistent. That said, sometimes you get talkers in your vehicle. Our last time I was none too pleased that we got two teenage girls sitting behind us talking about their friends abortion and they were very loud. I don't know if I was more irritated by the topic of conversation (some things I just feel should be discussed in private) or the fact that we couldn't hear anything else (the movie or each other) over them. Thankfully our kids were in front of us so they were oblivious to it all. Me and DH didn't enjoy Sci-Fi that time, but that was a very isolated incident. Overall we normally have very pleasant experiences there. I think the volume of the movie is that of a normal movie theatre, possibly even lower.

Thanks for all of the help. She can handle "noise". I guess it's loudness that bothers her, so I might have said that wrong. Fireworks will be an issue for her. She loves TV and movies, so she'll be fine with that. I just couldn't remember how loud they had the movies and if there was screaming or anything like that. I recommended it because it's a fun place where the don't have to sit still and be quiet. Her other option was Mama Melrose's.

We've eaten at Sci-Fi 3x and I could've taken a nap each time. Everyone is focused on the screen, which isn't cranked too loud.

Wow, I'm surprised at the responses.

Every time we have been there, it was really quiet, and I am sensitive to noise... just ask my 5 kids.

Character meals are usually much louder.

I've experienced the movies to be rather loud, but the customers and all were very quiet because they were watching the movies. I also think the dim lighting lends itself to make everyone calm and quiet, as well.
