I'd like to take the boys to the Sci Fi just to see it- I think they'd get a kick out of it and was wondering if it's ok to book an ADR for just milkshakes and to take a half hour or so to relax. I would eat dinner there, but the food just doesn't seem to be worth a TS credit!

Many years ago...MANY when our dd was 2 we went to Sci Fi and got desserts ONLY. Well our waiter was NOT happy. Not sure how this is suppose to work. Good luck. :goodvibes

You could...or why not order your milkshakes and get an appetizer or two to share :)

In consideration of the waiter, I personally wouldn't make an ADR with the intention of not eating anything. If you want to make an ADR, I would suggest getting milkshakes in addition to an app or dessert, or paying OOP for a meal if you do not think it is worth a TS credit.

Last October we had a lunch ADR at Prime Time because the food appealed to us more than Sci-Fi. We wanted to check out the Sci-Fi though so I made a late afternoon ADR and we all got drinks (kids got the keepsake cup) and 2 appetizers to share. We enjoyed the atmosphere while we ate. The waiter didn't seem angry but I wasn't really analyzing him either. :confused3

It never occurred to me that it was a bad thing to do. We paid for our small order and didn't stay as long as we would have if we'd ordered an entire meal so we didn't take up the space. We tipped. I don't feel guilty and I am glad we checked it out!:rolleyes1

We are going for app. and milkshakes in October.. Just not crazy about the food there. But my kids love the atmosphere..

I understand the reason why a waiter might not be pleased, but isn't this a service to the guests who are already paying a lot of money to stay at a place that is supposed to make all their dreams come true. It's a shame that people have these experiences and have to go out of their way to order more food just to make a waiter happy. That's absurd. The person is going to be getting out of the restaurant quicker than someone ordering a full meal anyway. And if you think about it....there will be people who order just a meal and people who order a meal, appetizer and dessert. So in the end, you're probably get the same total amount of people and tips!

Maybe Disney should think of creating a section or bar (like in diners) for this type of service. When i saw the thread title i thought "YES! I want to do that too!" Because i can get the other food anywhere else, but the milkshakes are more iconic here.

That's funny, I was planning on doing the same thing. Want to experience it, but have heard the food is terrible. Also, we are on a tight budget and are paying for meals OOP. If the server gets angry, that's not my problem. I will let him/her know from the get-go that we are only there for dessert/shakes.

I wouldn't say the food was "terrible," but it certainly isn't on par with some of the more expensive restaurants. I'd say it's a good place for a quickish lunch, and that's what I plan to do this next time.

Truthfully, we enjoyed Sci-Fi. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the shakes, the burgers and the corny movies.

With all that said, I honestly don't see a problem with you just ordering shakes. Why is that wrong? Would you not go to a restaurant outside of the World and not just order shakes if that's all you want? All of the food at WDW is badly overpriced, including the shakes, so why in the world would you feel compelled to order something you don't want?

Go for the shakes and leave a nice tip.

personal tipping habits is not a topic for discussion :)

We had lunch at sci-fi in April. Good burger and the atmosphere was great. Loved the movies snips and the car

I am not really interested in what the server thinks about what I am going to order. :confused3

Don't worry and have a great time!:thumbsup2

I agree.

We had a good meal there and enjoyed ourselves. Kids & husband had burgers and I had a grilled chicken sandwich. Shakes were yummy :)

If you want to go and get milkshakes only then DO IT. I am about fed up with the mentality that we have to keep EVERYONE else happy at the expense of what makes us happy. So what if the waiter doesn't like it??? :confused3

We all had good food whenever we ate there last trip.
I had the pasta with the shrimp, DH had the ribs and DS had a Veggie burger.
Sci-fi is a fun place.

To be honest i dont care if the server is displeased because i didnt order a full meal and dont see why he should care anyway. As long as you have a reservation and plan to order shakes and/or app and give a tip there is no problem in my book. Go for it. We may just do the same thing

I agree with the the other posters! I don't see anything wrong with just getting milkshakes. I would go and enjoy yourself! Who cares what the waiter thinks. :thumbsup2

While I don't think there is anything wrong with just ordering a milkshake, I would encourage you to try the food. I think this place gets a bad reputation because the food is not as expensive as other places. However, it is not meant to be. It is food that you would get at a drive in type fifties place, burgers and shakes. If the dinning plan is free anyway, why not try the food. My husband loves the ribs and the steak salad I had was amazing!

Well thanks-- that makes me feel better and not so crazy! And yes, we go to a "normal" restaurant and just get dessert at times... and like I said, we wouldn't be there long- just long enough to enjoy some quiet time, a treat and enjoy the place. We wouldn't be hogging a table for an hour and a half or anything. I just might book that late afternoon ADR after all! :hippie:

If you never had one of their milkshakes...I thought I would let you know their more like a Wendy's Frosty with a deeper chocolate flavor, than a true milkshake. At Wendy's they promotes the Frosty as a dessert and at Sci Fi it is easier to consume it with the spoon straw than attempting to get it to go through the straw.:)

I would take me chances with a walk up on this one. When you make an ADR they reserve the table for an average anount of time for a family there to have a meal. This was you would be fiilling an open slot they had already.
