Sci Fi Dinner

Seeing the great pics of the Sci-Fi dine in makes me want to go back. Unfortunately we already have all of our ADR made for our upcoming trip. A trip to the drive in was not in the cards for this trip. It will definitely be one of our sit downs on the next trip. I might eat while watching MST3K tonight just to catch some of the old feelings.

Sci-Fi is one of our favs, fun atmosphere, great AC (we usually go in August) and decent food. Kids love it and ask for it every year. we will be there again in August to enjoy the cheesy movie-clips and atmosphere....nostalgic for us that remember the movies and has become nostalgic for the kids as they have been going since they were very young.
My kids love it too! We last ate there in August 2019 and skipped most ADRs last year because we went during the Delta flareup, but we planned to go back again in August 2020. We have a reservation for this August and it was a must do. The food isn't super expensive by Disney standards. You could also share entrees and get your own milkshakes.

I always wondered why a party two always get seated in the back row. They could just as easily take the first row and leave the middle and back to a party of four.
I think because the hitchhikers tend to be an adult couple, and groups of four might include children who can sit in the front seat. It doesn't always happen that way, I've seen cars full of all adults.

Our family loves sci Fi and try to go every trip. As a party of 4 we have almost always been in the first 2 rows of a car, with hitchhikers in the back.

The only times we’re weren’t seated in a front facing car is when we had a high chair. The sideways facing car tables are usually reserved for high chairs.

Just above the table that is mounted in front of you in the cars there is a little illuminated panel that helps to see the menu. I think the last time we went here they had switched to QR code menus.

The fries are more like thick steak fries (Very similar to Red Robin) rather than the thinner Disney quick service fries and are very filling.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.

On our most recent trip with our 16-year old daughter, who has been on multiple WDW trips since she was born, when I asked her what restaurants she wanted me to book her top two requests were Sci Fi and Jungle Cruise Skipper Canteen.

Our ADRs open up next week. At the moment we are pretty set on just booking two table service restaurants (Boma and Chef Mickeys).

However, Sci Fi Dine In Theatre place looks fun. Silly question but can you sit together as a family of 4?

Also, is it worth the time? It's partly financial why we're sticking mostly to Quick Service (as we've splurged on other things), but am also thinking it takes away from park time....plus hard to work around Genie+ as we won't know any times until the actual day (and even then won't know what else we are booking). We only have one day at Hollywood Studios.

Our HS day is 60+3 so not even sure if we could get an ADR.

Looking for feedback. Thanks.
Hi: You are right; The sci-fi diner is a lot of fun! We love their cheesy old movies and the dark, coool atmosphere in there, with the car hops.
It's an excellent place of rest and get out of the heat.
We always stick to the burgers, fries, and shakes, and they are always great.
We have had 6 people in one of the cars once, and it was fine. A party of 4 could absolutely fit in a car. I hope you enjoy the sci-fi.
If you are looking for gourmet dining, then this is not it. The food we have eaten has always been good but basic.

Amazing replies. Just the fact that this thread is on page 3 days a lot about this restaurant (mostly good comments). Gonna send my kids and DH all the info and see if they're interested. ADR date opens Tuesday so will want to book then if they are interested. Definitely sounds fun and I like booking Disney type places that are themed or different from your everyday place we can go to at home. A break from the sun as well would be a bonus. Just need to make sure it doesn't take away too much time from the rides (but doesn't seem so based on the responses).

One important question....a few have mentioned the shakes. Any particular one to order? That would definitely be a treat for our kids.

Adult Oreo shake would be my choice :teeth: Virgin for the littles LOL

I believe they have a "shake of the month" that changes... or they used to, anyway. Anyone remember that?

Yep, its a seasonal shake--- the ones around the winter holidays are usually amazing !!!

Sci Fi has been a must do for us since we started going in the early 90s. We have eaten there almost every trip. We usually stick to burgers, but I have also had sandwiches which were good also. We ate there on May 1st. I had a pasta with salmon entree that was really very good. It was hard to take a picture in the dark. But I was really happy with it & would definitely order it again.

Are you guaranteed to sit in a car for a party of 3 (2 adults, 1 child 3-9) with an ADR? or you can also be seated at an umbrella table? My daughter was chosing our restaurant list with me and she'd be so disappointed if we are not seated in a car...

Maybe someone with contrary experience can chime in- but I've read more than once that the handful of umbrella tables in the back are for walk-ups.

We're always in the trunk, which isn't the greatest view, but we love to eat there and have our reservation for Sunday, July 3, at 1:40pm - LOL. My biggest problem is how dark it is so I can't see the menu.
We are there same day at 1:30! Have been to Disney many times but never to this restaurant. My teens asked for it. Looking forward to it but wondering how they configure seating for a family of 5 (2 college aged, one teen and parents).
