Sci Fi Dinner

Last week, we just booked lunch at 60+3 and had no problem getting the time we wanted. In fact, later in the afternoon on the day I booked, we decided to rebook an hour later, and there were still spots available.

Also, Disney Food Blog mentioned in a recent update that they have a few new menu items, so hopefully this is part of a good food upgrade.
Great to hear you had no issue booking/modifying your reservation for the same 60+3 days.

Will show my kids the pictures and menu and see if they are interested. They may pass due to not wanting to miss out on ride time (one is a big star wars fan), but lets see. It does seem like a fun Disney experience.

Are you planning on a full park day (meaning no pool break or similar way to beat the heat)? If so, I would book it if you can (no matter what kids say) and then decide once you're there. You'll still be able to cancel. I don't know about you, but I would NEED a break from the August heat! So kids may have a change of heart once they get down there.

Also, I love Sci Fi... the experience is cool and I thoroughly enjoy the BBQ burger with a glass or two of red. It's a must do for our next trip. My kids can take it or leave it, but my husband also loves it.

Good advice having a relaxing AC break lined up on go-all-day park days 8-) ....I appreciate one and our trips have never even been at the height of summer heat and humidity :sunny:

Correct...full park day. We're only coming to Disney for a short-ish trip (1 day at each park but 2 days at MK and 2 days at Epcot). So want to maximize time at the park and deal with the heat at best as we can (find inside things, shaded rides, etc). So if we book, would try for lunch (regular time or early afternoon). I do like the idea of lunch being a break from the heat.

We have gone in August a number of times and we always enjoy a nice, long lunch in the AC when temps and crowds are high. Lines can get pretty long at quick serve places, so you'll be spending time eating, either way.

We are not crazy about the food there if you are going to do TS would select 50’s Prime Time Cafe instead. There is great food and depending on the server some interaction that makes it fun.

We never considered Sci-Fi as an option as my husband says we can get burgers at home. Last summer we booked day of (lucky snag of a reservation) and it was one of our favorite meals. The dark and cool was welcome after a HOT morning at HS. We sat in a car about halfway back from the screen and were facing each other (2 and 2). It was a good solid meal of burgers and fries (and chicken tenders). It’s nothing fancy or different but we found it to be decent food and a great place to cool off. The price was no more then anywhere else. Both my girls requested it as soon as we booked and DH asked for it a day later.

I was just there today for that mid day break with my grandchildren.
Still fun experience for basic hamburger & chicken strips… plus the shakes !

10 years ago, when our kids were just shy of 5 and 3, we took them to Disney World. It was a fun, magical trip, but man we were exhausted. The 2 year old decided she was terrified of public toilets so that was never ending drama.
We ended up changing our DHS day last minute and somehow were able to snag a reservation for Sci Fi. We walked in and it was dark, and it was cool, and it was pretty quiet, and we sat in a car and stared at a screen and zoned out for an hour and ate and giggled at stupid movie clips. I couldn't tell you how the food was, but I will tell you regrouping during that that meal was absolutely one of the highlights of our trip.
We are going again in August (girls and I have been since, but hubby has not). One of the first things he asked was "we're going back to that car restaurant right!?" Dark, cool, and quiet in August? You bet! I had no issues getting a mid-afternoon reservation for 60+2 for our trip.

Sci-fi is a must do for my son. I had to tell him we aren't doing it every trip. It's a great experience and honestly one of the only places on-site that our bill was less than 100 bucks. Their food is better than typical chain restaurants but not as good as some of the places at Disney.

we are gonna be 60+7, so hopefully we can get one reservation

Are families of 4 typically sat with other parties? We have a reservation in July that we are really looking forward to, but I'm not sure how we will feel about having additional diners in our car.

Our ADRs open up next week. At the moment we are pretty set on just booking two table service restaurants (Boma and Chef Mickeys).

However, Sci Fi Dine In Theatre place looks fun. Silly question but can you sit together as a family of 4?

Also, is it worth the time? It's partly financial why we're sticking mostly to Quick Service (as we've splurged on other things), but am also thinking it takes away from park time....plus hard to work around Genie+ as we won't know any times until the actual day (and even then won't know what else we are booking). We only have one day at Hollywood Studios.

Our HS day is 60+3 so not even sure if we could get an ADR.

Looking for feedback. Thanks.
When I have done it you get 2 rows of a 3 row car and there are "hitchhikers" (a party of 2) behind you.

IMO you probably will hardly notice them. We love Sci-Fi, but any interaction with people other than the one sitting directly next to you is not the easiest. Unfortunately this includes others in your family that you might want to talk to. But the idea is to order food, watch the film, and generally enjoy the ambience. This is not like sharing a table at an hibachi restaurant.

Sci-Fi is one of our favs, fun atmosphere, great AC (we usually go in August) and decent food. Kids love it and ask for it every year. we will be there again in August to enjoy the cheesy movie-clips and atmosphere....nostalgic for us that remember the movies and has become nostalgic for the kids as they have been going since they were very young.

I always wondered why a party two always get seated in the back row. They could just as easily take the first row and leave the middle and back to a party of four.
