We've never been, but I can't wait!

Would someone explain to me about the different seating options. I heard something like not all seats are "cars." Is that true? Where's the best place to sit? There'll just be me and DD12. Is it true that they don't let parties of 2 into cars because it wastes seating? Do I ask for the kind of seating i want when making a PS, or when checking in at the restaurant?

THANKS!

I'd like to know the answer to this too. It will be just me and DS8. Part of the fun would be sitting in a car.

There are cars and picnic benches in sCI FI. we were a party of 2 when we went last year and both times we ate there we were in a car. our server said we were hitch-hikers to the family in front of us!!!

We love sci fi!! :earboy2:

We were told once by a Sci-Fi CM that the car seating was kept for those who made a PS in advance. We have always been seated in a "car" and we have always made our PS well in advance of our trip, so maybe that's true.

Most seats are in cars. I have heard of the tables in the back, but to be honest I have never noticed as they always sit me in a car, and it's so dark in there I never paid attention.

If you are a party of 2, or even 1, yes you can get into a car, but you will likely be put in the back of/front of a car with a larger party. You won't get a car to yourself - they have three sets of two seats per car. You sit front-to-back, so you will be staring at the back of someones head (or they will yours).

It's a really fun place, and most people get over any awkwardness about the seating pretty quickly. Just remember to not try anything "fancy" off the menu - burgers, shakes, and 'rings are great, everything else is an invitation to disaster.

Hope you enjoy, because it is a "must-see" at WDW - you just have to know how to work it properly.

Dh and I went to Sci Fi alone last week. We were seated in the backseat of another families car. I thought that was weird at first but it wasn't any different than being seated at a table next to someone else. I didn't walk aroung the entrie restaurant but it looked like all of the seating was in cars. Most were 3 rows of seats some had the front and back end of the car and a table and chairs in the middle. I noticed that most of the people seated with the table and chairs were parties that needed a highchair. I would guess that you would be seated in a car with another party. The place was clearing out when we left and there were a few parties of two in their own car. Have fun!

Just reading this thread makes me drool thinking about their burgers.

When we went in October 2004 we were a party of 3 and we sat at one of the tables. The reason we did this was that we wanted to eat earlier than our PS. This saved us about 40 minutes from the quoted wait time. It was also nice to be able to all sit together, since if we sat in the cars someone would have to sit by themself.

There are a few "picnic" tables at the rear of Sci-Fi. We ate at one of these tables as well but were given the choice when checking in on a 30 minute wait or immediate seating at the picnic table. If you make a PS they will put you into the car. Like other said though a party of 2 will be in a car with others more than likely though.

We are a family of 3, sat in the cars, and hated it for just that reason. DH and DS sat together and I sat by myself in the backseat...it felt rather awkward.
