My boys are 4 and 2 (will be 3 and 5-on the third day there) my youngest son has autism and sometimes is disturbed by sudden loud noises.. so my question is how loud is sci-fi? if there are weird noises and its stereo type sound it may be too much for him (it really is a coin toss on this)

Also has anyones child ever been scared by the movie shorts?
I love the theme of this restaurant so i'm really hoping we can go!!

We just returned after spending a week with a 3 year old who was afraid of loud noises and the dark. He was scared of the fireworks, pirates of the carribean, the muppet 3-d movie, etc. But he was fine at Sci-Fi. The movies are so cheezy but there are screams in the clips. Also, the CM's will loudly announce that they are now "parking" such and such a family and they do use loud voices to that it carries through the place.

This was the quietest restaurant we have ever eaten in..if your child can handle a movie theater he can handle this place...the movies are not that loud tho

I'm also wondering how my dd will handle it. She will be 1 at the time of our trip. I haven't seen any highchairs in any pictures at the Sci-Fi Dine In theater. I'm curious how it will work with the booth seating there. TIA :goodvibes

if I eat somewhere with booth seating my boys never use highchairs or the booster seats if they're inbetween two adults or at the wall it is always okay -I'm not sure how active or big your daughter is though and I also don't know about that actual restaurant just my parent two cents lol

We went in Dec with my 2 year old son and it was not a good experience. I don't think he liked the whole eating in the dark idea and at 2 they are pretty hard to reason with. My girls really liked it though. The food was just ok imo, we will probably skip it next time.

We dined here for the first time this past November. I had all the same concerns.

My DS5 LOVED it! He sat in the "driver's seat" with his dad. The waitress gave him a driver's license that made his day! He was so proud to write his name on it. :)

I sat in the backseat with DS2. The seating is quite narrow. There wasn't any room to hold DS2 in my arms while seated. He was cranky as it was his nap time. Finally I went outside and got his stroller to pull up to our car and he fell asleep. The restaurant was that quiet! :rotfl:

They do have booster seats and highchairs available. The highchair cannot be used with a car. You'd have to be seated at a table. The family next to us had a six person table (the car parts were in the front and back, with a standard table in the middle)

They mostly showed Tom & Jerry cartoons, which surprised me. I was expecting scary movies.

My DS5 absolutely loved the entire experience. DH and I didn't care for the burgers, way too salty (that day the chef might have just had a heavy hand).

We'll eventually go back, just not any time soon.

This was surprisingly one of the most relaxing meals we had. I found it incredibly quiet -- not loud at all. The lights were dim and everybody seemed to be speaking in whispers. My DD3 enjoyed the movie clips and my baby was fine. Those of us who stuck to ordering burgers, onion rings and milkshakes had very enjoyable meals. Those who ordered other types of entrees were disappointed.

My baby was too young to sit in a highchair so they let me park her stroller next to our car (the cars are spaced quite far apart. I imagine that is where they would position a highchair. She was very happy lying back in her stroller in the dark lighting. She drifted off to sleep in the hush of the restaurant -- it was actually a great break from the park for the baby.

I completely agree! The movie clips do feature some screams but they are very, very quiet and we usually relied more on what we could read/see than hear of the description. They do loudly announce they are "parking" someone, to the point it made me jump, but I am a very, very jumpy and anxious person. I think overall he will do fine. It's very tame usually, and while dark it isn't absolutely pitch black. You can definitely see everyone/everything, so no truly hidden surprises. Overall, I think it's pretty tame and he should be ok!

We went last year with my dc including dd6 with autism. She gets very anxious and frustrated with a lot of background noise/suprise noises/visual stimulation, you know, the "too much going on to process" kind of thing. She was fine. The only problem we had was that the place was so quiet that my ds2 disturbed everyone around us because he was so excited about meeting Woody. I also think it helped that we got a table and not a booth, so she wasn't facing the screen unless she wanted to look at it.

HTH!

P.S. I don't know if you've taken your DS to WDW before, but this was our DD's first time and I was worried about her being able to handle it. But we took our time and made sure to find quiet places to rest for a few minutes through out the day. There are empty park benches all around (which was surprising) and we were so thankful.

While I am not an expert on autism, if loud noises scare your son, I would stay away from the fireworks for sure. There are many loud sounds in WDW. You would be best to call and talk to someone there that can help you with this. What to stay away from, etc. Also, I dont mean to sound bad, but possibly ask his doctor about ear plugs you can use during the trip. Just my suggestion. Have fun!1

Thank you!!
To be honest *chicken moment in 5...4...3...2...1* I'm scared of fireworks:scared1: :scared1: so I was going to avoid those as much as I possibly could anyway  but yes I will ask his dr for some tips we've been to smaller parks where he melted down a little from the parades (Sesame Place) and the shows when people start clapping it just freaked him out- so I want everything to go smoothly at WDW, he would never let me use ear plugs on him though I can barely get a shirt over his head and keep his nose clean in the winter time :confused3

I have to give the dissenting opinion :goodvibes . Depending on your child, it can be scary. My son was scared and had nightmares for a few months after our trip several years ago (he loves it now). At the part where the big dude gets a needle, a CM would yell really loud (not sure if they still do that). Most of the clips are silly, but to a young child (remember - a giant, talking mouse is real to them), there are a few really scary things.

I think you need to evaluate your own children and make up your mind based on their current levels of exposure to similar things.
