Monday August 24 First Day of School

I see they have pushed back the start of school one week for Orange County public schools. I'm still hoping for some August discounts, but they probably won't go into affect until after school starts. (I know, Man, what's with the negative waves?

Anyway, we are planning to arrive on Aug. 17 and staying for 10 nights, we were hoping/expecting Florida schools would be back in session, but what's that saying about, "All good plans......"?

Yes, seems the start date has been bouncing all over the month of August down here in FL (all depends on when Labor Day falls). Everyone was outraged when they started school the first week of August 3 years ago.

Since then the "Save Our Summers" campaign had pushed to start school later. With this law passing, schools are not permitted to start more than 14 days before Labor Day. So it really depends on when Labor Day falls. I think it was earlier this past year so school started on Mon. the 18th. I guess because it's not until 9/7 this Sept. that starting the week of the 24th would be breaking the statute. So for future trips during that time take a look as to when Labor Day is. If it falls later schools will start later.

But do keep in mind that many other states in the south DO start school earlier so it won't be as busy as it is in early August but I'm sure many FL residents will be trying to get their last summer Dis trip/visits in especially since seasonal APs are no longer blacked out after August 13th.
