DD will be starting kindergarten next year, and I wanted to go back to WDW to celebrate my BIG 4-0 birthday. Checked the NYC public school schedules for 2008, and found it is PERFECT for me.

Since Easter is early in 2008, the kids have off Good Friday, but we also have off for Jewish holidays. Passover happens to fall the week of 4/21-4/25, and the public schools have a late Spring break. My birthday just happens to be 4/20 so we can be there for it! :cool1:

My question is - I assume most of the country has Spring Break based upon Easter. Is this the case where you live? I am hoping that Disney is not so crowded during 4/20-4/25. I know, yeah, right.

But one can hope :goodvibes

Get off Mar 21
Come back Mar 31

But that is only the public schools in the city... the schools all seem to have wildly different schedules.

In our schools in PA my son is off starting March 15th and returns back to school on March 25th.

Hi, Samantha, just wanted to say hello! We live in the same borough, I am on the South Shore. My DS starts kindergarten in the fall too! Good luck with your birthday planning, I turn 40 in January and am trying to think about how I can take myself, DH, DD, DS5 and DS3 again especially since we have gone the past three years in a row. Enjoy your trip, even if it is crowded, there is always something you can do to avoid the crowds.

NH is last week of February and last week of April. Massachusetts and Maine are the third week of February and the third week of April.

Here in Anne Arundel County, Md.....our only Spring Break is the Thursday & Friday before Easter & the Monday after.

Most of the schools in my area have off Good Friday and the week following Easter. The dates change year to year with Easter. I am in Cape May County. My nieces are in Washington Township about an hour north of me and I think they have off the week before Easter.

Here in Maine we have the same week of April you do (21st) as that Monday is Patriots Day. That's always the week we have off. We'll be going at that time also, our first time during a school vacation week. I figured it would be a good year to try it, with Easter falling so early, maybe it won't be as crowded.

Here in another part of NY the April vacation occurs from 4/14-4/18! Sounds like the next week might be a great time to go!:yay:

Our kids get off for Good Friday and Easter Monday in March, but then their Spring Break is April 21-28 for 2008.

Thanks for all the replies so far! Looks like this may be a good week after all!

Keep 'em coming! TIA!

Hey! I grew up on the South Shore (and taught there) but now I am Mid-Island. We have also been there 3 times in the past 4 years, but it is my birthday and 40 only comes along once, right?

Actually I will use any excuse to go to WDW!! :thumbsup2

Maybe I will see you there, lol!

I checked a popular crowd calendar and your dates come up as follows...

Sun, 20 6
Mon, 21 7
Tue, 22 5
Wed, 23 5
Thu, 24 7
Fri, 25 8
Sat, 26 8
Sun, 27 6

Looks like 25,26 are pretty crowded, but that Tues / Weds looks great.

I just checked our schedule - we're actually moving - only two counties away, but the county where we're at now has Break the week after Easter. Where we're moving has Good Friday and Easter Monday, but Spring Break isn't until the week of April 14.

Near me in NJ (Mercer County) schools have either the week of Easter or from Good Friday through the end of the following week. Our school has the middle 2 weeks in March all the time from what I can tell, but we're too small to impact WDW crowds. :)

For some reason I thought NYC always has the last week of April.

We went that week in 2006, and it was fine. Really nice weather, moderate crowds. Still lots of people, but it was ok.

Wow, thanks! Would this be from The Unofficial Guide? And does it refer to all parks or just the Magic Kingdom?

Thanks again!:thumbsup2

NYC had the same break in 2005. The parks were filled with people from NYC, Long Island, and New England.

Keep your eye on the Grad Nights schedule. During our 2005 trip, the MK closed early a few nights for this event.

I'm also turning 40 next year (January 17). I'm trying to figure out a way to combine birthday trip with the MLK holiday and regents/finals week.:surfweb:

For some reason I thought NYC always has the last week of April.

NYC ties spring break in with Easter and Passover. If the two holidays are close, then the break will cover both.

If not, then we only get out for Good Friday. (They use to include Holy Thursday but that has changed:confused3 )Then spring break will cover Passover.

I went to Catholic School and our Spring Break always coincided with Easter. My DS goes to public school. Next year, his spring break will be March 24-29.

I think spring break fluctuates a lot.
