School Uniforms-yay or nay?

The way kids dress these days I think uniforms are a good idea. I do think the town should pay for them or the school (if private). This way parents would save $$

Maybe this has been said, but I don't think that uniforms in and of themselves will make a huge difference, nor will they immediately.

It has to go with a whole philosophy and be part of a bigger concept. My DD's school had been wearing the uniforms for 100 years and they meant something. Kids were proud of them, whether they wanted to admit it or not, and they had come to stand for a love for their school.

You just don't stick uniforms on a kid and expect things to change overnight. You have to include a new sense of school pride and self worth as students of the school.

You are so right. I think this is where most schools are missing the point.

Well our district does have some sort of dress code. No spag straps or tank tops, supposedly no mid driffs (yeah right!) shorts have to be a certain length, no vulgar slogans on shirts, or diruptive blah, blah, blah. First 2 weeks of school one girl in the 8th grade was sent home or parents called repeatedly for shirt too low cut (hey it doesn't say anything in the handbook) skirt/shorts too short etc. The new principal was constantly telling boys to pull their pants up. It just gets really ridiculous. I still think the uniforms would look nice (my bosses grandson goes to a private school and he always looks nice) and in my house my daughter wouldn't be trying to figure out what she was going to wear.
