Well, DD came home from her school trip, to the opticians, last week saying that she probably needed glasses :)

As neither myself, nor DH, wear glasses I thought she had probably misunderstood but she was adament that a letter would arrive, from 'said opticians' within the next few days

The letter arrived, precisely 24 hours later, and DD (7) is now the proud owner of a pair of the most dangerously looking fragile 'specs' I have ever seen............................ :lmao:

Apparently they bend and do all sorts of mind defying stunts but I'm still convinced I need to get a spare pair for when they get sat on, bent, dropped, left in some obscure place...........add your own scenario, at will, and we'll probably manage it at some point.......... :rolleyes1

Now she tells me she's probably not been able to see loads of things she should have but never said a word!
Does this make me a bad mother..............? :confused3 :rotfl2:

She was so excited to pick them up that I was drawn back to the days when my DF (15 at the time) couldn't read a house number from the street but wouldn't get her eyes tested for fear of being teased :(

Things have changed so much over the years but I could have quite happily 'decked' the couple of people who said 'oh, never mind' and 'what a brave little girl you are'!!...and one of them was my Mum............... :rotfl:

Here's to years of choosing the coolest glasses in the shop - usually based around 'Lizzie Mcquire' or 'That's So Raven'. Thought DD might punch someone when she was offered a 'Barbie' case earlier................................. :rotfl:

A far cry from my first pair of NHS specs at age 6, later I found out that they were the "John Lennon" specs, I just found them silly!

Bless her I bet she looks really cute in them. I don't envy you keeping them unbroken! :)

She looks lovely (as always  ) but, trust me, they won't stay unbroken at all.....................

Thank goodness for 'Westfield' ;)

I was thinking the same when my daughter went to collect hers, how trendy they were, when I was a teenager and found out I had to wear glasses I was offered pale pink or pale blue NHS ones, they were the only two choices :)

my dd (15) had her opticians appt last saturday, infact is was a family outing as we all had an eye test! my eyes are still perfect, my dh is surprised at that because of the amount of time on the dis :teeth:
but the rest of the family need a slightly stronger prescription.
dd hearing she needed new glasses, headed straight to the designer frame section :guilty: she has still yet to chose what she wants, but you can bet its going to cost a few bob.

Sounds about right..................... :lmao:

My mum was asking where I was planning to write her name / class etc - excuse me? There's no space to even add a blob of identifying nail varnish........................................ :rotfl2:

I have been wearing glasses since I was a teenager, I have just moved into the joys of contact lenses. They can't really get broken :woohoo:
Although i did drop one on the floor and David had to find it for me as I had already put the other one in and couldn't see a thing :teeth:

Glasses are like a fashion accessory these days (thank goodness). My DD needed glasses for reading and using the computer because she kept getting headaches. After using her glasses on and off for 3 or 4 years, the problem corrected itself and she no longer needs them :)

That's what I think might well happen as DD loves her 'Sims' computer games but we'll see and, what the heck - as she says - all the models wear glasses............... ;)

woah, school trips to the opticians! We just used to have the school nurse do one of the letter charts from part way down the corridor with a spoon over one eye! Then we switched over. Safe to say nobody was ever told they had sight impairment doing things that way!!! Besides, the first person told everyone else what they saw, and the second and third people backed them up, so the nurse wouldn't know anyway!

I will never forgive my parents for taking me to the opticians while we were on holiday (and hence I was told I needed glasses and that my eyes would quickly worsen...which indeed they have!)

My face suits the oval shaped frames best so I had some brown ones, quite thin and as I didn't have to wear them all the time they weren't so bad.

Just two months later I was back...new lenses, new frames (purple ones this time!) and thankfully they lasted me just over a year...

When I went back for my current pair I decided I'd had enough of frames...and I'd managed to scratch my lenses quite badly...so my DM went for broke and got me a frameless pair made of the bendy alloy or whatever it is with coated lenses...and I have never been as impressed with a pair of glasses. On photos my face is so much lighter and brighter, and in my vision to the world I don't have lines between myself and a clear view! Hurrah!

But yeah...glasses seem to be trendy these days, and I certainly don't feel 'nerdy' or 'geeky'. I was offered contacts but I can't stand the thought of putting stuff in my eye!

Oh grief I remember though I think I later had the same style in a horrid brown

As for the unbreakable glasses - they didn't get the better of my nephew for long but he was only 3!

I wear contacts too, much prefer them as you get real all round vision, but it is a pain when you lose one

My sister and I had to wear glasses from the age of 2 here is some of the things we did to them;

Put them down the loo
put them under the carpet on the stairs
leave them in the road to be run over, a van driver brought them back!!!!!
bury them
leave them everywhere

:rotfl2: :lmao:

Guess who didn't want to wear glasses.

Contacts really took a while to get used to but now my vision is so much better with them. I don't mind putting them in as much as trying to get them out.
I needed glasses for reading at school as I got headaches but my eyesight when the other way. I now have to wear them at work and for driving but I do have an astigmatism so it's mainly to help things look sharper. :3dglasses

I had the pale blue ones!:rotfl: My best friend had tortoiseshell ones with wire that went round her ears! :scared1:

My eldest DD has to wear glasses which she hates so she now has contact lens. My youngest DD so longs to wear glasss but she has 20/20 vision. Can you imagine a child coming out of the opticians crying because she doesn't need specs!!! :rotfl2:
