Here in VT, the kids start back the week before Labor day.

Ugh! Usually we go back the day or so after Labor Day. This year they decided to use the week of Labor Day to bundle all the Teacher In Service days together. Thus, the kids aren't going back until September 12th!
We liked the occasional day off here & there. So we will have had 3 FULL months off this year!

In certain parts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky school has already started. The good thing about school already in session is that in 55 days is Fall Break and our family return trip to WDW and the value season rates. The bad part is we have had so much fun the past 3 years a lot of others have figured out that this is the perfect time to travel to WDW. Just hope that its not as crowded and hot as the past weeks have been there at WDW

My DD goes back August the 8th. But I think they are changing it next year in Texas, and they will not go back until Labor Day.

The state of NC passed a resolution last year, stating that all NC schools will start on Aug 25th. The tourism Board wanted the change, so there would be more people taking August vacations- last year, some school systems were starting as early as Aug 1st.

While I don't have kids, I do work in a pediatric office. Here in the northern burbs of Atlanta, we have a mixture. Some of the kids further north started school this week. Most of the kids in our area start school on Monday. The rest start sometime in the next 2-3 weeks, but the vast majority of public schools will be back in full swing by Monday. I have filled out more school forms in the last 3 weeks than I care to think about. Maggie

I'm here in GA too and almost dropped my teeth when I heard some schools were starting July 28th. My DD (actually my step daughter but I wish she was mine) starts Aug 12th...this coming Friday. I remember the good ole days when I started the Monday before Labor Day because we always had a 3 day weekend the first week we started. Just one more step towards making school a year round thing.

Here in Ontario ,Canada...the kids go back after Labour Day.
I'm starting to see a trend toward school districts experimenting with All Year schooling. I looked at some of the websites and I have to confess that it looks like a pretty good idea (the kids still get the same amount of time off school but its spread over the whole year). So, they get time off in February,April, July,August,September and December. They claim that education grade results improve.

New york City public schools go back Sept.8.

My dd will have her first day of kindergarten on Aug.25. I think that is around when most of the schools start here in northern Ohio.

wow 3 months vacation! we get 6 weeks in England! Luckely it was my gcse exams this year (important 16+ exams) which means that i got an extra month or so's holiday. I get the results on the 25th August, wish me luck! Good luck to any As or A2 Students (17 and 18 year old REALLY flippin important exams) for there results on the 18th! But school starts for our secondary school on 6th of september for all A or As level students (hopefully me!) or 7th for the rest of the school

Last year, school started July 28. This year they moved it forward and we lost a week in October which I don't mind at all.

Frankly, I don't like two weeks in Oct and two weeks in March. The daycare situation is horrendous for working mothers that way and the kids are way too bored. This time, it's a week at a time.

I wish school started later in the month because of it being so hot and the summer seems very short this way. They also are complaining that with the short summer, our tourism is hurting. I wouldn't know about that, I just don't like the dog days of summer!
