School Spring Breaks (Always Week Before/After Easter?)

Ours vary- this year they get off Good Friday, Mon-Thurs of the following week, they lost Friday due to a snow day. Next year its Good Friday and the Monday after Easter and then April 22nd-29th for Passover break. Usually its Easter break every year but next year its Passover break- no clue why.

Ours is generally the third week of March, we are on vacation right now! DD will also have Good Friday off and the following Monday for the end of the quarter. Also, where we live we get Jewish holidays off, too. I have noticed today DD has fewer days off now that she is in HS, only a couple of professional days a year.

We always got 2 days for Rosh Hashannah and 1 for Yom Kippur if they fell on a Mon-Fri. More often than not, Passover was close to Easter, so school was closed for at least some of the days of Passover most years.

CT here. Ours is always in April. Not necessarily connected with Easter. We do have Good Friday off and then Spring Break is April 13-17.

Our spring break always starts the last Monday of March for a full week. They also get Good Friday so this year they lose out on a day off.

We don't get snow days in my part of Canada so the schedule doesn't vary.

Jewish holidays aren't celebrated here-or even recognized.

I'm 42 and have always lived on LI, different school districts.

Spring Break is always scheduled to cover easter and passover, so it could be the week before or after Easter.

Every so often, like 2016, Passover and Easter are not close together. Next year, we'll have a 4 day weekend for Easter and then a 4 day weekend for Passover.

We always have February Winter break. The only year it was taken was after Sandy. Honestly, lots of teachers and students didn't attend that week because of vacations!

I'm in MA and I wish they would get rid of the February break and let the kids out of school a little earlier for the summer. We would be happy with just the April Patriot's week break or a week at the end of March. February is too cold and miserable here to have a week off. And it's only 6 weeks after the Christmas break! The kids are just getting settled back into a routine. If you don't go anywhere you still end up spending a small fortune on activities at home like bowling, movies, museums (all packed for the whole week) or you pay the overpriced airfares for that week and try to get out of dodge praying that there won't be a storm that closes the airport and takes 1/2 of your vacation.

Our county school district always has Spring Break connected to Easter. Most years, break starts on Good Friday and goes through the full week after Easter. The only exception is if Easter is past mid April- then break is the full week before Easter and the Monday after.

DD attends a boarding high school a few hours away. Their Spring Break is the week before Easter.

we had both an Easter Break (friday before and monday aftr easter off) and a SCHEDULED spring break, but parents had to sign a note at the beginning of the year tyat they underdstood that days could be taken off for snow day make up days. heres the kicker - they didnt tell parents until the weerk prior if they were taking from spring beak. it made for some REALLY small class sizes some years!! parents still pulled their kids for vacations even if there was school

and ours chamgers - sometimes its before and sometimes after

Central Texas here, we are winding down a week of spring break, kids go back to school tomorrow

Houston here, the school districts split it up. Half of the area was out two weeks ago and half were out last week. I had never heard of a Winter Break until I got on the Disboards. Most schools are out the Friday before Easter. Houston School district takes off for some of the Jewish holidays. The other districts just let the Jewish kids miss school and count them present.

For the public schools here, it varies from year to year. This year it is the week after Easter but if Easter is unusually early or late the break will be scheduled independently of the holiday. At the private school my girls attend it is always the week after Easter.

Growing up in NH I always had a week off in Feb and April (Feb was the same as MA, April the week after NH) - holiday weeks were based on bank holidays and had nothing whatsoever to do with religion. My kids in MA are similar with with a week in Feb and a week in April. Holidays like Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Good Friday, Chinese New Years and some Muslim holidays are no tests/no projects due. If you take off and send in a note saying you were off to observe the religious holiday it is an excused day off.

Ours has nothing to do with Easter, it's the last full week of March. Basically, it starts the 11th week after school restarts after winter break. It's for the winter quarter to fall directly between winter and spring breaks, so the week before spring break is finals.

And winter break is what others call Christmas break of holiday break. That starts the first Monday after New Year's. We do not have a break in the middle (like President's Week or similar), we usually just have MLK and President's Day off as three-day weekends.

Fwiw, school also starts the Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day, depending on the grade. And school ends the third week in June.

I'm in Massachusetts and have three kids in three different schools. Two of my kids get a week in February (the week of President's Day) and also a week in April (the week of Patriot's Day). My other child doesn't get either of those two weeks - she gets two weeks off in mid-March.

None of my kids' breaks have anything to do with when Easter is.

YES! I am not a fan at all of both February and April vacations. I would much rather ditch February all together and just have an earlier release in summer. This February the kids had plenty of time off with all the snow days, anyway. They were out of school more than in school! I feel that the school schedule is much more for the teachers than it is for the students and families.

Our April vacation is starting the week of Patriot's Day. We do have Good Friday off this year, though I know our district has been surveying parents about their preferences for days off and that may change in the future. GF coincides with the day before Passover this year, a busy time for our family, so I'm glad my kids don't have school. We also have 1 day of Rosh Hashanah (even though it's a 2-day holiday) and Yom Kippur off. As we observe holidays, I keep my kids home and they are excused for religious reasons.

No, it is not at Easter. No, not all schools around here get a week off.
