School Spring Breaks (Always Week Before/After Easter?)

I just learned on another thread that some schools don't schedule a full week off for spring break. :scared1:
Scheduled full week springs breaks are sacrosanct in these parts. (They might be curtailed or cancelled due to snow make-up days, but at least they're always scheduled.)

Anyway, for those schools that have them, are they always scheduled either the week before or after Easter, depending on Easter's date? In my, DW's, and DDs' experiences, they always were.

I think in Massachusetts (and maybe Rhode Island) spring break is during Patriot's Day week, rather than Easter.

After my kids were out of school, in 2008, Easter was exceptionally early, March 23. And in 2011, Easter was very late, April 24. In both those cases, my local school district had the break the second week of April, rather than at Easter time. I believe they also got Good Friday off those years.

(I know college spring breaks sometimes start even in late February...I'm asking about elementary/middle/high schools.)

Back when we still did them, they were ALWAYS the week prior to Easter.

My sister/nephews still have a "full" Spring Break & this year, it was this past week.

Here, going back to when I started school in 1962, it was Easter Break, not Spring break, and the public schools always took the week before Easter, and the Catholic Schools always took the week after.
I was in Phoenix this past week and overheard a Southwest employee and a customer talking about when spring break is, and the Southwest employee said anymore, spring break rush for them is basically anytime between about mid-February through the end of April. Which maybe why......along with the PC reasons.......it is Spring break now instead of Easter Break.
Sort of like when the schools here changed the start of school from the day after Labor day, to mid-August. They did it so that the kids took their finals BEFORE Christmas Break, instead of mid-January.

When my 2 boys were in school it was always the last week of March and with my DD it was always around the same time. Both schools have now gone to a balanced school year and the school the boys attended were out last week and this week and DDs school is out this week and next week.

When I was in school (late 70s/80s) they did away with the week-long Easter break (yes, it was called Easter break then, not Spring break). We only got Good Friday and Easter Monday off.

My kids, who were in Catholic school, had their break start on Good Friday and go the following week. Our public schools had off the week prior to Easter.

College breaks for my kids have been the first week in March. If they held it any later, they'd be getting too close to the end of the semester.

Spring break snd easter break are one in the same here. The kids get a full week, every other year, ending with easter sunday. The other years, they get Good Friday and the following Monday off, sometimes Tuesday also.

Where I live in NJ, it's the third week in April, and has been for at least 40 years.

Yes, we have a week in February and that one in April, no matter when Easter is.

Ours has always been the last week of March. Religious holidays do not play a factor in the schedule. We do not get Good Friday off.

Where I live, Spring Break is always in the middle of March. We have just finished Spring Break for this year and the kids will go back to school on Monday (tomorrow). It's never the same week as Easter.

It's called March break around here. It's the second or third week of March from Monday to Friday. If Easter is early, it sometimes gets incorporated into the Break. If that happens, kids usually get an extra two days off. But the Easter portion is always after the break.

We have two weeks off. This year Easter is in the middle. Last year Easter was after we got back from break.

In Central VA, we generally go the week after Easter unless Easter is very late. Then we go the week before.

here there is no "easter break"

Spring break is either the last week of March or 1st week of April. Some years (like this one) they are off the week before easter....when it's a late easter there are no days off -- as they usually get out of school in late May, so a week off in late April would be 4 / 5 weeks before they are done for the year.

We are in the last weekend of spring break right now, driving back to Florida from DC. Ours have always been in !arch, not tied to Easter.

I grew up in Massachusettes and we always had February vacation and April vacation. They still do.

Our school used to have Spring break around the beginning of April, it was always near my DS's birthday April 5. When they got back they would then have state testing. A couple years ago break was moved to end of April which is AFTER testing. We get out the end of May. We also get a winter break in Feb. Both are a full week. (Georgia)

Ours is generally the third week of March, we are on vacation right now! DD will also have Good Friday off and the following Monday for the end of the quarter. Also, where we live we get Jewish holidays off, too. I have noticed today DD has fewer days off now that she is in HS, only a couple of professional days a year.
