I have never made a scrapbook before and am making one for a project for school (I'm a senior in high school).

The scrapbook I'm making for the project isn't really going to be a post-trip book but more like a pre-trip book, for planning purposes.

My graduation depends on this project. It's a Senior Project and has 3 components: A research paper, fieldwork, and a product.
My project is Disney Vacations for your Special Needs. My paper was just the history of the Disney company. My mentor for the fieldwork is a travel agent, my product is the scrapbook. So it's 3 different trip scenarios with special needs ranging in the mental, physical, and dietary restrictions.

I've ordered this from Walmart. Do you think it's a good start for my first project?

It looks like something to start with. Let us know if you have any questions.

That was an easy choice, and will give you the basics of what you need. With thoughtfulness, focus and energy, any basic materials can be turned into something special.

Suggest you visit also the dis - abilities board, and see if you can get your hands on a copy of the Passporter book Walt Disney World for your special needs. It's out of print, but your local library or interlibrary loan may have it.

Good Luck.

I actually have a copy of the book. It's helped a lot with my project.

I second going to the Dis-abilities board. There are a lot of people who can help there. We can definitely help you build the book.

Since you ordered a paper kit I can assume you are doing a paper scrapbook versus a digital one. To make things easier, I would suggest picking 3 or 4 main colors, Black, white, red, yellow (as an example). It will help your album move faster.

Couple of questions:
When is the project due?
How many pages are you planning?
Are you doing separate scrapbooks for each disability?

Do you have any requirements from your teacher?
Do they understand the concept of Scrapping?

Oh one more thing, we just wrapped up a scrapbook for Make a Wish, so you might get some inspiration from those pages. Here is the link:

When is the project due? I think it's due in March. The handbook (yes, there's a handbook for this whole charade) doesn't specifically say when the product part of the project is due. The presentation date is May 21 so it has to be done by then.

How many pages are you planning? I was thinking 2-3 pages per disability. So, what, 10 pages. But then when I think about that I'm not sure if it will be enough. But it's better, I guess, to have more pages planned out then try to squish everything into a few pages.

Are you doing separate scrapbooks for each disability?
No. That wouldn't be good. It'd cost too much money for me.

Do you have any requirements from your teacher?
No specific requirement from the teacher about the scrapbook. It's not a traditional scrapbook though. I know that. It's going to be more word-y than traditional. Like I said before it's a planning book not a post-trip book. It's going to have a lot of numbers and information. The coordinator said that the pictures are mainly there for ascetics. My book is portraying their itineraries with budgets, plane, hotel, tickets.. I'm not sure if that made sense to you or not..

Do they understand the concept of Scrapping? Not really. It's not like everyone is planning a trip to Disney and everyone is making a scrapbook. This is my topic. Everyone else has a different topic.

OK now I have a clearer idea of what you are going after.

So most albums are 20 pages if you don't add refills. That will give you an idea for size.
Will you have an FAQ segment as well, or an area for notes like the Chef's phone number for dietary needs, locations for baby care centers, companion bathrooms, etc.

all ears has some great info you could use:

click planning and scroll down towards the bottom of the list for the disabilities sections.

Oh, I didn't think about having a FAQ section. That could be useful.

I don't remember who, but a scrapper on here works with special needs adults and they take a trip to Disneyworld every year. She then makes a scrapbook of the trip and posts pictures of the pages. She may let you "borrow" some of her images of her group for your project.

I planned and went on a trip last year with my nephews. 12 year old is diabetic and has celiacs(gluten, wheat free diet) 11 year old is autistic. We used a GAC on several occasions. We also contacted the chefs. Disney really is on top of these situations from our experience. I got all of the needed information from the dis-abilities board and allearsnet, like others have suggested. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, if our experience is helpful to you. I don't think either had an impact on our budget-but opened my eyes more on the magic that Disney can provide!

is construction paper bad to use in a scrapbook? can i use it like cardstock?

Construction paper will fade over time so if you use it only if you don't plan on holding onto things for a long time. I don't know if it will hurst your pictures but it won't stay true to color as long as most cardstocks.
