School Pictures...Pay BEFORE seeing the proofs?

I don't have a problem paying in advance since they always have a make-up day. It does bug me that they are getting so expensive! A small assortment of 1- 8X10, 2-5X7, and several wallet sized was almost $50 and that was the smallest "package deal" you could get :scared1: I ended up just getting 4 magnets (for the fridge) and 4- 5X7 and it was still around $30.

Not always true. If you owed money at the kids school they could and would do all of those things.
Not around here, and I'm pretty sure it's federal laws.

For example, we buy a set of novels for the classroom, and after a couple years of kids losing them, etc., we no longer have a full class set . . . and although we officially "charge" the kids (and it's officially noted in their records) for the books that were entrusted to them, if they don't pay . . . we have no recourse. So the teachers end up replacing lost novels out of their own pocket -- otherwise we can't continue to use the books we have.

It gets pretty old buying 5-6 copies every year.

Our school sends out a list about 2 months before graduation of any unpaid school related expenses-damaged textbooks, unpaid activity fees, sporting equipment not turned in. One kid had $1000 fine for a video camera :scared1:. The kids can't walk in the graduation ceremony, get their diploma or get their final transcript sent to their colleges until all these are paid so it must be legal here.
And some of those fees will be from freshman or sophomore year -- so the school's been owed that money for some time! You're right that the school CAN keep a kid out of the graduation ceremony, but if push comes to shove, they cannot withhold a transcript. They can be mean about it, but they're legally going to have to allow the grades to go out.

Ours aren't that bad. the smallest package is around $22. I paid $28 for a medium package. It includes 3-5x7, 1 class picture and 8 wallets.

Both girls get their pictures taken today. We purchased 2 $30 packages and 2 yearbooks at $9 each. We don't buy spring pictures, we send the package back in to school.
