Great ideas. I have a kindergartner this year and we are on week #4 and the menu is looking pretty boring so I will have to try some of these. I tried rolling up ham around a piece of cheese with a toothpick in it one day and he didnt eat it. I thought he would really like it too because it was different. So those of you who use a thermos, what do you to prepare the thermos for either hot or cold stuff? Sounds crazy but I have never used a thermos before because we have always had a microwave available. Do you put hot water or something in it ahead of time then put your hot food in or do you just put your hot food in and it stays warm in the thermos? It will need to stay warm for about 4 hours - is that possible?

Yes, that is exactly what I have done: put hot or cold water in it for a few minutes before I put the food or drink into it. I think it is hard to find a pleasing menu for younger kids.

This thread had some great links! DD starts Kindergarten next month and I need some good school lunch ideas, does anybody have any more great tips/recipes to share?

I am sooo not ready to think about school lunches yet. My kids don't go back to school until after Labor Day. but it will be nice to have some new ideas. My kids buy lunch some days but otherwise my younger 1 is picky and she often eats yogurt with a mix in. I would love some variety for her.

DS(13) eats school lunch - I just make sure he has his ££ and he can choose. DS(7) can be picky, and he won't eat much at school (prefers to play with his mates). So all very well the school saying they need fruit and veg and carbs and a treat (but not chocolate, a home-made scone or flapjack) - it would all come home again! As it is he has his juice at school, and maybe half a sandwich, and eats the rest on the way home. I'd rather leave the extra stuff here for him to eat once he's home than carry it to and fro:rotfl:

Our kids break up on Friday, back in September.
