OMGOSH!! I know the area is growing really fast but this is getting RIDICULUOS!!!

They have realigned the districts again for next year... keep in mind that this neighbourhood has been realigned 4 TIMES in the last 5 years!!

That means that you have the choice of going to 4 different elementary school and be bussed to each of them because we being "grandfathered out" so the kids that started 4 years ago at a certain school can stay there so since the bus allready comes for them if you choose that school you can hop on until the first child quits going to that school.

A nice option but that makes for 10 busses each way morning and afternoon!

Besides that very few kids actually GO to the same school in this neighbourhood because of that.

So here we go again! They have decided to realign AGAIN for next year. Now it will mess up the preschool system as well as the elementary.

UGH!

I feel your pain! We bought our new house in May so my daughter finished 2nd grade in her old school before the move. Last year, kids in the new neighborhood went to school 12 miles away. School this year is 18 miles away. Area around 12 mile away school has been built up with very expensive houses in the last 2 years so all those kids have first choice since they live within 2 mile radius. Brand new elementary school for the new house opened in August. Built for 860 kids. First day of school, over 1000 show up. By Christmas vacation, 1080 are registered. Just got approval to build another wing for the school with 12 more classrooms that will be ready in October/November. Also talking about redistricting again.

I feel your pain, too! We live on one edge of town that is growing VERY fast. We have lived in our house for 9 years, and have been redistricted 5 times....and probably will be again this spring. Our district is growing by leaps and bounds, and with their current financial crisis they just seem to redo the boundaries at will to realign enrollments. On top of it, the bus is now shared with an apartment complex that has become gang infested (moving down from Chicago) and we have had several assaults on the bus just this school year alone. Monitors don't seem to help-- the latest altercation was between the bus driver and a boyfriend of the child's mother! This is one reason why our kids are in Catholic school- at least we know where they will be going to school, know that there is adequate discipline and an emphasis on academics, and last time I checked I seemed to be pretty good at preventing assaults in our minivan (I can make better threats than detention!!!).

Good luck!

Here's an interesting slant to theTennessee education law: apparently, if I'm reading it right, if the school district refuses to allow your child to attend the CLOSEST public school to your residence that has the appropriate grade, you are excused from compulsory attendance.

How wild is that?
