Has anyone been to the new Schliterbahn Water Park in Galveston? My boys and I hope to spend a few days in Galveston this summer. When I look at the website it looks pretty similar to a Great Wolf Lodge type of park, small. Wondering if it would be worth the price? Seems like one day would be plenty there, or maybe even an afternoon/evening. Also, any hotels close by, none are listed on the website. Looks close to Moody Gardens, but those rooms are usually really pricey.

TIA

I would go in a minute!

We've been to the one in New Braunfels :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

The one is Galveston is supposed to be laid out where you actually ride in a tube to each attraction...you actually wait "in line" sitting in your tube. If I understand it correctly, you're in a lazy river "highway" which takes you to each attraction, with water "offramps" to each attraction.

If I'm wrong, somebody can please clarify this...

The park in New Braunfels was very well run.

We have also been to the one in New Braunfels. I believe it is the largest water park in the nation. It is quite large and well run. I would make sure it is warm enough before you go. I am sure it is by now.

Plus, I'm from LA so I get cold easily. Have fun! Texas is my favorite state.

We went a few weeks ago - it's a good one-day park, very family oriented. The kids had a blast...Yes, you can take the lazy river to the various areas, - but, you do have to stand in line.

The guards were very well trained, the park and the bathrooms were very clean - even by the end of the day.

There is a reduced price after 2:00pm.

If you do a search for Galveston Island tourism, there will be plenty of links to hotels, condos and beach houses. The island is easy to navigate, so it really doesn't matter if you are close to the park or not.

Thanks for all the replys! We have been to the one in New Braunfuls. That was so huge, great, unbelievable. This one is new, looks smallish, but maybe it will expand. We will probably try it for one day. The water park in Dubai, Wild Wadi, has all its slides connected by a lazy river, its awesome! I'm sure this one will be fun too.

Anyone else tube down the river in New Braunfels and go down the tube chutes...we had a great time doing this.

The one in Galviston sounds a lot like the one on South Padre Island. We went to the one on SP about 4 yrs ago when we were there for a wedding.
I really enjoyed the park. I loved the way it was set up with the "water" lines instead of having to get out and walk up steps carrying a tube.

I was in Galveston a few years ago and thought they really needed something like a water park. What a great thing!!

There is a nice resort and attraction we went to: http://www.moodygardens.com/
The downtown is a quaint old waterfront area.
I loved it. Not too far from Nasa either.
We also drove into Houston to explore.

There are great hotels along the seawall in galveston with rooms that give you a view of the cost. The San Luis was really nice, my wife and I spent one anniversary there. It was a bit pricey, but there are less expensive alternatives.

I've yet to visit any Schlitterban park, and I've been in Texas for over 25 years :/

We watched a water park show on The Travel Channel and have wanted to go there ever since! It looks awesome.
