Scary rides

I have read and heard that a few rides that sound like rides for children are actually scary. Such as Stitch's Great Escape, Snow White's Scary Adventures & DINOSAUR. Our children are 2, 6 & 11.

So in you opinions are these rides too scary?

more than likely your 2 yr old is too small for Stitch and even if not it is not scary. My 2 and 6 yr old had no problem with Snow White, and the 6 yr old HATED Dinosaur..at the end of the ride a HUGE dinosaur is right over your head and when he appears his mouth is right above you and looks like he is gonna come down and eat you...It even made me jump a bit!! I probably wouldn't even take the 11 yr old on that one.

I have to totally agree about Snow white... It's really not scary.. just a little dark, but you can always see what's ahead, so it's never pitch black! And nothing really jumps out at you. We took my daughter when she was 2 and she loved it!

We haven't tried the other two.. I am too scared (read "claustrophobic") to go on Stitch's Great Escape and I've always thought my kids weren't old enough for Dinosaur yet... now they are 5 and 6 1/2..

Forgot to add:

In my honest opinion..Stitch is a pretty stupid ride...They take you in this room and they put you in these seats and the bars come down around your neck like you are going on a roller coaster ride. Your seats never move and stitch appears in the middle of the room and then he is behind you and he burps up CHILI DOG and it smells DISGUSTING and when you get off the ride you still smell it in your hair a little while after...I don't recommend even wasting your time on the wait or the ride.

We took DS 4 at the time on Dinosaur. We forgot how very scary it is. DH and I had ridden it on prior trips. It is dark, loud and yes, you think you will be eaten by a dino at the end.

We felt like bad parents afterwards. Last year, DS was 5 and remebered the trauma of dino. He stayed with parents while we rode. We did not force him or even ask him to go on... We knew he would not want to.

BTW, there are other attractions you may not think are scary, like Honey I Shrunk the Kids and some of the other 3-D attractions. Loud and/or dark are pretty common with Disney attractions.

If your little ones are not fan of fireworks for example, they may not like some of the louder Disney attractions.

There are tons of great things your family will enjoy. DOn't worry, you know your kids and will have a great time!!!

Dinosaur scared me! If your kids have any sensory issues the 3D shows (Tough to be a Bug) might be a bit much. Snow White scared my then 4yo daughter but it isn't an intense ride or anything - it just focuses a lot of the wicked step-mother and is dark. Haunted Mansion stopped for about ten minutes when we were in the graveyard scene and I remember thinking that my kids (who weren't with me) would probably not have been happy sitting there staring at graves that long. I would also recommend that you carefully consider your 11 year old's ability to handle motion if he/she asks to go on the intense version of Mission Space. Maybe my brain is too old, but I had to sit and take a break after that ride.

Ok i guess i'll have a differant opinion my ds was tall enough to ride dinasour when we went right before he truned 4 years old, dh LOVED it had a buy a HUGE dinisour after the ride, i wasn't able to go on it with them, as i was 4 months pregnant and waited outside with dd who was 19 months at the time. then he rode it two times in a row when we went in sept '05 he was 5.5 and rode with dh then baby swap and rode again with me since my 3.5 year refused to ride it! LOL On the other hand he road stich though it was nasty and gross, and not that great.

Our DD6 hated Snow White, Stitch, and It's tough to be a bug. We didn't make it to Dinosaur, but I don't think it for kids under 8. It's a rough ride and it's pretty intense. Our daughter hayes getting wet so she didn't like any of the shows with misters. However, she loves Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, go figure.

Hi I'm 12, and I'm not a very intense roller-coaster person ( i do like BTMR and Splash etc.) but DINOSAUR, just scared me half to death....and I didn't go on Stich because I'm clasterfobic (wrong spelling)...snow white is not really as scary as it's made out to be...your 2 year old might by a little scared but not really!

DS3 was scared of all the 3d shows and some of the live shows. We steered clear of any rides that had "bad" characters. He was even scared during the Little Mermaid show. However, he LOVED and did not fear a single character. (GO figure!)

You know your children and how they react to things. We took that approach with our 4 yr old.

He FINALLY is 42" so we tackled Dinosaur on our last trip. (He LOVES dinosaurs) He cam eoff with no tears but said it scared him, but when he talks about it to people he acts like it was the best ride ever. I asked if he'd go again and he said YES!

Snow White is just dark, and there are some strobe lights. My 4 yr old liked it.

Stitch... we have not tackled yet due to the fact of the lines every time we go.

My DS was 81/2 when we went and wasn't scared of anything he saw,however my DH who was 4 was scared to death of almost everything . The Pilharmagic show, the Little Mermaid show (Ursula is huge, kind of scary looking, and VERY loud), any character who wasn't a princess and pitched a fit when trying to get onto any ride that was dark (even It's a Small World) although once we got her on them she was fine. She was even afraid of the fireworks and night parade, although she is past the fireworks fear now. I don't know why she was afraid of half the things she was

So my question for those of you who have maybe experienced this in the past and have gone again, is how do you get them past the fear next time when they remember it? We are going over spring break and she will turn 6 while we are there and still says she won't go to anything she was scared of last time or thought she might be. She refuses to go to Fantasmic and Beauty and the Beast even though she didn't see them last time and is convinced she will be afraid of them. I can't get her to even agree to try them with the promise we will leave if she gets scared. Any advice ? I am at a loss as to how to handle it.

When we went on Dinosaur a couple of years ago there was an 8 year old boy in front of us who looked nervous...and then at the part where the huge dino looks like it is going to eat you the ride broke down and we were plunged into complete darkness...I could only hear the poor 8 year old boy sobbing in front of me. Talk about bad timing! My son is 8 this year, hasn't been on dinosaur yet and is still refusing to go on because he heard me tell that story. All kids are different...my 3 1/2 year old ds wants to ride everything when we go next month and my almost 5 year old ds is nervous about everything. I plan to just wait and see, and let them try the rides they want to try but not push anything. I think Snow White is fine for them, but unless they are big Stitch fans (which my 8 year old ds is) the Stitch attraction isn't worth it.

Believe it or not, that scared my DS in Oct, who was just shy of his 3rd b-day at the time. He didn't like the 3D things flying at him - I guess he was too young to realize they weren't real and probably thought they would hit him. Because of that, we skipped Tough to be a Bug too.
He also was not thrilled in POTC - I had forgotten about that drop, and the beginning is dark and creepy. He was OK when we were in the other part of it, but the whole beginning part spooked him.
We didn't even attempt Dinosaur this trip (don't think he was tall enough anyway) and since he doesn't like Stitch and I've heard it's a "must-skip" from lots of people.
