Scary ride?

Hi,

can anyone tell me if the Phantom Manor ride has a scary intro? My little girl(6) loves the rides even when they are scary etc but finds some of the "build ups" to be a bit intense, spoils it a bit sometimes... I guess i should ride alone first to see, but thought I'd ask anyhow...

When you first go into the Manor you are taken into a circular room which is plunged into darkness and there is thunder and lightning sounds. The most noise comes for the Adults adding their own sound effects.It doesn't last long but maybe ride it first yourself!

We were pretty scared when we were the only two in the room with a CM, plus it was dark outside too, we were sure he was going to jump us when the lights went out

DD3 was on PM with no problem while found Snow White and Pinocchio to dark. DS5 needed some encouragement.
We find talking them through what is going to happen helps

My youngest was 4 just turning 5 when he rode it and loved it, we took my 3year old niece last time and whilst she was very brave on it, she didn't want to ride it again. I can post up a link to an onride video if you want a look/see, like Cyrano I think it's best to tell them what's going to happen i.e. the lights will go off and everyone is going to pretend to be really scared. I think it's the noise of other grown ups rather than the ride itself which is intimidating, it can be rather annoying too.

This is my favourite, bear in mind that the ride is narrated in French and not with the English narration as in the clip, however if you listen carefully you'll be able to astound your companions when you are able to translate the story for them

My four year old found the first bit scary especially when plunged into darkness. but my husband held her and kept talking to her and it was soon over. She is a bit of a wuss though and hid under his coat duing the ride!
She also found Pinocchio an snow white scary.

I went on with my 8 year old daughter and she loved it. The best bit for her had to be the CM that hid on the back of our car and jumped out on us half way through!! It was hillarious!!

I have always wanted to go on phantom manor. ive been to DLP 9 times and have never plucked up the courage to get myself on it, no matter how hard i or other ppl try.
the problem is i have HUGE imagination, so altho i might not be that scared by whats going on, my imagination will run away with me (anyone else have that problem?!)
but i know id love it if i did go on it, cos its not like horrid ghosts is it, its nice ghosts who've got stuck.
the film Haunted Mansion is loosely based on it, isnt it?

Great clips - Thanks very much for that - it made me realise that there is NO WAY she will like this ride at all. The first wooaaaaaaa from the narrator had her running!!!!!
As for a CM jumping up at the back of you - I think I would have DIED! - let alone the kids being scared!!

the beginning is definitely a little scary - my 10 year old daughter wanted out immediately - and couldn't get out so spent full ride eyes closed buried in my shoulder, ride is great though but perhaps take it yourself first and judge - not a huge wait while we were there

My two DD's were 3 & 4 and we explained that it would go dark and everything was just pretend.

I was shocked at how dark it did go but they were both OK although they didn't want to go on again!

The 4 year old didn't like pinocchio but the 3 year old loved it. You just can't tell!

i've been on snow white probably about 20 times, but it still freaks me out - with all the trees and stuff!
my boyfriend got a bit of a shock wen he took me last xmas, and half way thru the ride i dove head first into his shoulder and didnt reappear til the end. he did find it funny tho!luckily!
