A woman was cleaning off her car of the snow and had her kids inside the car with it running. She didn't clear the tailpipe and the girls passed out from carbon minoxide poisoning. Luckily, it appears that they will be ok.

That is scary but how long would she have to be cleaning off that car for her kids to pass out?

The article I read said the relative was shovelling snow which would be longer than cleaning off the car.

Very scary story! The article I read said the girls are 4 and 7. They were playing in the snow nearby while the mom was shoveling out the minivan. At some point she put them in the car, maybe to keep them safer or to warm them up?
Thank goodness they are going to survive.

Wow that is scary. I never thought about clearing the tailpipe of snow. I've lived here all my life and have never had it that full of snow I guess.

Ok, re-reading a previous post, I'm assuming with the tons of snow you guys are getting, that it was a snowbank of some sort blocking the tailpipe vs. snow IN the tailpipe?

Very scary!
I am not from a snowy climate and this is the first year I have lived in one. I noticed after our recent snow that the plows had left big hard-packed drifts of snow right up against the back of my car which was parked in front of the house. I don't think the tailpipe was blocked but it easily could have been. Hopefully I wouldn't have allowed such a situation to happen (leaving the kids in the car with the car running and tailpipe blocked) but out of ignorance, I might have. I'm glad I read this story and I'm glad the children are going to be okay.

So sad, every year there are stories like this in the news. I think it really should be a law to make this and how hot it gets in a car in the summer mandatory questions on a drivers ed test.

thank you OP for posting this. I had no idea to look out for the tailpipe. So glad those girls are going to be ok.

I think they showed the car on one of the news shows last night. It was in a snow bank (probably made by plows) and they had to dig it out.
