scared of Stardust and Velocicoaster

In September, I'm visiting Uni for the first time in several years. I've ridden the Hulk several times (dislike it because of the way it rattles my head around). Reading and seeing things about Velocicoaster and Stardust Racers has made me increasingly nervous about riding either. What are your thoughts on those coasters?

I haven't done any of these but I have heard that Velocicoaster and Stardust are MUCH smoother than Hulk. Would like to get to the point where I can do the first two, zero expectation of trying Hulk due to what I've heard about how shaky it is.

Yes, it is quite the intense pair of coasters. Between both, I think Stardust isn’t going to be as bad as it sounds. VelociCoaster was very fast… as in right from the start fast. You’re going to be launched shortly after leaving the station. If you’re scared of speedy rides like this, it’s ok if you don’t want to go on it. At least it’s not as bumpy as Hulk.

If you do build up the courage to go on either coaster, I would recommend screaming the Loud House theme song when you get to the highest point of either ride. I did this when I went to Busch Gardens a few years ago, and it got me over that part of my life that couldn’t stand coasters like this. It may sound dumb and ridiculous, but believe me it gets you through the G forces much better.

Not sure this helps but...

I was somewhat the same - not so much the jerkiness as they fixed hulk a few years back IMO.
I was concerned about it being more intense.

Anyway spoke with someone from Universal who was a tour guide.

He was saying how he blacks out on Hulk. I know I get very dizzy on Hulk
He said he had no issues with Velocicoaster.

I rode it was much smoother than Hulk IMO and I did not have the same dizzy issues.

OMG I hated Hulk and I LOVE Velocicoaster. I can no longer ride Hulk, Space Mountain, Rockin Roller Coaster or any of the jerky roller coasters.

I'm not big on roller coasters in general. I don't seek them out and can take them or leave them.

I really like Mine Train because it's a smooth, fun ride. But Velocicoaster is my favorite roller coaster. It's VERY smooth.

Don't get me wrong, it is intense as far as a roller coaster goes, but a lot of fun.

My only recommendation is you make sure the harness, or whatever it's called, at your waist/lap is snug enough. The first time I rode it I felt there was too much room and literally thought I was going to be flung out of the ride. The next time was so much better. My absolute favorite roller coaster ever.

Oops. I also love Hagrid's. Just so you know what kinds of roller coasters I enjoy to compare to your likes...

I second this!

I've never done Rip Ride Rocket or Hulk, dislike Rockin' Rollercoaster, but I wanted to try Velocicoaster. If not for this bolded part happening to me as well, I would have LOVED this ride. Super smooth.

I'm still working up the nerve to try it again though LOL

For me, Velocicoaster is a smooth but it is a very intense coaster. You do feel the speed, the Gs but I don't get off feeling like I've been in a battle. I think a lot has to do with the type of restraints. It is a lapbar, so your head doesn't bang around. It is my favorite coaster.

Stardust Racers, OTOH I felt like the movements kept jamming the lap bar into my stomach to the point it hurt. I couldn't really concentrate on the ride. We rode each side once, and that was enough. We go back in September, and it will be DHs first visit so we will probably ride so he can try it. But I am a little apprehensive.

So glad someone else understands that feeling! But sorry it happened to you too.

I was literally praying that if one of us was thrown out of the ride let it be me instead of one of my teen daughters. The entire time I was praying and wondering if I would feel any pain when I landed below.

I also warned my sister and her teen son when we rode it the next trip and my nephew was so worried he'd fly out (he's pretty thin and scared of roller coasters in general) that he put it a little too snug. Not very comfortable for a guy. lol. So while he didn't worry about being flung out, he was in pain the entire time.

I sure do! That must have been a terrifying feeling for you. I'm sorry you felt that way as well.

TBH, my brain didn't even register enough to think what would happen because I was so hyper-focused on the feeling that my butt was several inches off the seat. LOL. If I can get the restraint to fit OK, I'd probably try it again.

My teen just rides it over and over again and just loves it!

The front seat will be smoother than the back. I would also say ride it once and see. You don’t have to do it again but should do it at least once.

Not sure if any of this will help but here's what I hope is a relevant anecdote:

I'm a huge coaster nerd/junkie and both Stardust and VelociCoaster are in my top 3 I've ever been on. In my opinion they both are very different than The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

The Hulk is the MOST intense of the 3 coasters from a sustained positive g force perspective which is why you'll get a lot of people "graying out" (blurred/static vision and feeling like you're starting to pass out) on the Hulk. You won't get any moments that get close to that on either VelociCoaster or Stardust.

The good news is you also won't get any headbanging on VelociCoaster or Stardust since they use overhead lap bars that lower down to secure your upper legs (super comfortable for both coasters in my opinion) instead of the classic over-the-shoulder restraints that the Hulk uses. Your whole upper body will be much more free and you won't have anything next to your head/ears (other than the head rest behind you on the back of your seat, of course).

I will also say this. My wife is not a huge coaster fan by any means. She'll usually reluctantly ride the Hulk once in a blue moon. And she's essentially terrified to ride most of the coasters at Cedar Point (which is our home park as we live 2 hours away). She LOVES VelociCoaster; it's her absolute favorite coaster for some odd reason. She even likes it better than Hagrid's which is still shocking to me. 🤯

She also rode Stardust and thinks it's actually more intense than VelociCoaster. I think she's not a huge fan of sustained ejector airtime and layouts that tend to be higher off the ground, which is why she prefers VelociCoaster as it has a more compact and low-to-the-ground layout (for the most part) compared to Stardust.

My coaster days are over since everything hurts after a ride. With that said, the Hulk gave me a very stiff neck and a headache while the other two didn't. Our kids, who can repeatedly go on Velocicoaster and Stardust, are also reluctant about Hulk.

^^ this is why I'm terrified of rollercoasters that have lap bars and go upside down. I love coasters but I need to feel secure, so over the head restraints have always been my comfort! I braved Rip Ride on my last trip and hated it, not only for the jerkiness but because I felt like I was slipping out of the seat going up the lift hill.

Needless to say I chickened out of going on Velocicoaster on my trip last year, however looking back I'm annoyed at myself for not trying it at least once so I will be going on it when I go back next year, especially after being reassured by this thread.
