Do you have to wait before opening time for them to scan your ticket and go through the turnstiles or do they let you do that before they open the park?

When DCA opens at 10, you can go in at 9:30 (9:00 if you are a DLR hotel guest). Funny, I've never been at DL early enough to know how it works over there.

The last time I went (summer 2008, i think) we were at disneyland 30 minutes before open and we were able to get our tickets scanned and go thru the turnstiles to enter part of main street u.s.a. before the rope drop. Lots of people were taking pictures in front of the flowers near the train station at this time!

Last week they did a countdown at the turnstiles 10 minutes before park opening. People were held in Main Street until official opening.

We were just there a couple weeks ago for a week so we saw several things. On the magic mornings they held the crowd at the turnstiles until opening. Then they had a rope drop for the non magic morning crowd. On the non magic morning days, they let people in early and had a rope drop.

Sometimes they will scan your ticket and then on to rope drop. Rope drop usually occurs when there are high crowd expectations for the day.

I've always wondered why they sometimes do rope drop and other times not. Thanks for the clarification!

As an aside, I went to DL a few years ago. There was no rope drop. Once I got through the gate, I was the first person into the park. I took a video of an empty Main Street, etc. Alas, I can't seem to find it :-(!
