In my opinion, this is the key right here. The fatal flaw of VMK is the emphasis on obtaining items for their rarity; unfortunately it tends to bring out the worst in people. I know that trading is the main object of the game for many folks, and there's plenty of honest traders, but you all know what I'm talking about.
If there had never been no precedent set for rare items in the first place, perhaps players would be used to spending their time differently. More game creating, room building, socializing, etc. Less time playing pointless promotional games over and over again in the hopes of hitting the jackpot.As it pertains to the wanting of the rare items. I was scammed...
I think this was a well planned out scam by a member or maybe a used to be member here on the DIS.
Here is what happened:
I was approached on the Pirate Dock a couple of days ago by the scammer.
He addressed me as Too and asked if I knew justanotherjones(a friend who I play pirates with a lot). He said he needed to trade with Jones because Jones would give him credits for items and since Jones was not around I asked him what he needed.
He said 30,000 credits to buy a quest machine he gave me a flip and an animation viewer. Then later he asked me if he could use my Red Space Magic to buy his quest machine and that he would let me hold his sparrow hat. We did this several times because he told me he was having trouble getting into Inner Space. So I trusted him and felt he was a good person.
I could not have been farther off base.
Today he found me on the dock and asked if he could borrow my inferno
so he could take a pic of himself using it.
He would let me keep his Full Sparrow and his stitch hat he also added to that a green pirate chair and a club33 pin. (Full disclosure)
I took screen shots of the trade window where we agreed this was only to take a picture and that he would give it right back.
I think you all know what happened next.
That is the story and how I feel about VMK's response is another thread and will post what transpired after later.
For now just be aware of this scam.
Also I am going to lobby that VMK take a hard stance on these types of scams, full computer (IP) bans for these scammers. If anyone in the meantime wants to know his id either PM me or post and I will provide it to you.

While I never asked VMK to return my inferno, because I did not think they would, they did assure me they were looking into this scam and scammer.
It has been 3 weeks and I have not received my inferno back and
I know for a fact my scammer has been in the game as recently as 6-6-07 and I believe he is still scamming players in the game.
And they worry about if we say "I live on the east coast". Personal protection is one thing. But what about these kids mental protection?
Don't tell me that scams like this and foul language don't harm kids in any way.

Aww so sorry to hear you didn't get your inferno back and that he is STILL scamming people. could u pm me the name by chance? TIA hope u get your inferno back and the person gets banned for life!
Really the rules state you let them borrow and they don't give it back then basically to bad. And I think Mal did things the right away with going about this. I'm sorry it wasn't returned but as you have said you weren't asking for it to be or expecting it to be. Just the scammer be banned..which why he isn't I don't get it. I don't know the name of the person so when you have a chance pm me who it is please Mal. I think writing on this and the other things brought up in your other thread is needed at this point. VMK needs to rethink how they handle everything.
