Scam - Identity Theft Scam at Grand Californian

Got a phone call this morning in our room at VGC around 7:00, and the man said he was Robert the hotel manager and they had a mixup in our address, was it a street or drive. Since he woke me up, I asked him to repeat it and he said they needed to get it straight in their computer. I asked him what address they had on file and at that point he hung up.

I called back to the hotel and the operator that answered me was the one who actually put the call thru to the room. She said this had started last week and that scammers were picking common names and then asking for that person's room. She said once they verified thee address they the would try and verify a credit number.

She said that there should have been a notice in our welcome packet about this, but there wasn't. So, if you are going to be staying here, just be warned.

That's odd.....every time I have called someone staying at a Disney owned resort I had to give the person's name and room number that I was calling, the operator would not connect to a room without it.

I only need the name when calling a hotel, not the room number. They will switch you to the person's room, but cannot give out the number.

Some good, some bad, some ugly.

Gorgeous view first two nights in a one bedroom, now in a studio with a construction wall view. Tried to stay in one bedroom the whole time, but the resort is filled up.

Did the Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour, enjoyed it very much.

Talked to a DVC rep here, she says VGC will sell out in the next ten days. I think she meant my Use Year.

Talked to my Guide @ WDW today and he said in their meeting today that they thought the whole resort would be sold out by July.

While in one bedroom we saw a whole run through of WOC, no rumors of soft opening yet. They start the WOC music around 7 am. You hear it plain as day in the villa- can only imagine what three shows a night with 6,000 viewers will sound like.

Weather is great, food good.

Totally OT, but yeah that's what keeps me from lemming after the iPad. I love my iPhone but seriously hate on the 'keyboard'. Typing out anything more than a dozen words or so drives me bonkers.

I never considered the noise through the note because you def can hear it at least in the room I was in in March.

I'm sorry you got that call! I know they had a problem with it at WDW a year or two ago, I can't remember! Our official warning was just a note saying don't give out personal info. I knew about it beforehand because of travel boards. Glad you didn't get scammed!

Just FYI on the OT. The noise is pretty bad from WOC in the PP park view rooms. A number of ppl have commented on it here in the elevators. It woke our whole family up the other morning
