Scal 2!

I paid for the new version of SCAL. Found a few tutorials. OMG!! You need it! Swappers -- I just typed in a title, got it all set, copied so I had 6 of them -- then, I grouped them all, copied ALL of them to a new page with one little click, and then with another click, changed them all to shadow!!

ANother thing you can do -- if you type out a word in one font and you don't like it, all you have to do , is change the font, or change the size -- no more re-typing the whole thing!

It will trace simple images too -- no need for inkscape for simple images (still need inkscape for coloring pages)

If you read about some bugs, they have worked some of them out.

Apparently it will also type vertically, but I haven't been able to figure that out.

One more thing - -you know how the mat with both SCAL and CDS is the wrong way - -arrow to the left instead of at the top? You can change that in this version of SCAL


ooohh - -you can also put a bunch of images on your page in layers and then only cut out the layers you want!

Which tutorials do you recommend, Susan. I bought the upgrade, but I am having a horrible time figuring it out. I must say I really dislike Inkscape!

I watched these two to get the hang of the changes. After making a few things, it became easier and just a whole lot faster!

However, I haven't done anything in inkscape...I just can't seem to make myself invest the time. Perhaps if I quit signing up for swaps....I don't see that happening I really like the 2nd tutorial - -they are a bit repetitive but worth the 15 minutes. THe 2nd one has some inkscape tutorial that I want to check out. Hope this helps!

One more thing - -they are already up to version 2.03 --make sure you have that version. Apparently they worked out a few bugs.

Got some help with typing vertically -- just a click and then, voila! Vertical typing

I know that there are a bunch of new carts out - -wait! Get SCAL first. Even if you never learn inkscape, just the unlimited fonts and the ease of making titles that are welded and shadowed make it well worth the money. Leanring that part is SUPER easy -- even I could teach you that! Hold off on the carts until the $30 Christmas sales start.

Where can you find a good price on SCAL? I really know very little about it, but GOSH alll the awesome swap pieces I have seen really make me want it.

Not really -- I think you can do a screenshot and blah blah blah...my mind goes fuzzy and I don't understand what the wonderfully talented people who do this are talking about. But the short answer is, for those who are basic users, no, you can't use your cricut carts in SCAL.

You do have to have a cart in your cricut to make scal work - -any cart. You can switch back and forth between SCAL, CDS and cricut without turning anything off or unhooking anything.

THere is a forum at surecutsalot.com where you can get answers to question. I purchased directly from surecutsalot.com...I don't know about pricing at other sites...maybe do a google search for surecutsalot coupons?

i feel like that too! but i'm sure that my computer is way too old to handle this so i'm going to wait until i get a laptop and then do the whole scal or gypsy thing then. plus i will totally need so much help to do it that i can not focus on that right now!

Thanks, Susan, I'll check them out. I consider myself pretty computer savvy and I'm very frustrated I can't get the basics down in Inkscape. I just downloaded 2.003c, so I'll play with that today.

Fun! I got quite a bit done, but I still need to finish up some swaps. I made a calendar for DH's birthday with pics from our 2007 WDW trip.
