This is more of a vent for myself but I'm feeling a little over whelmed. I started scrapping a year ago. I thought at the time I would do our Disney album and be done. Then I decided to do our past trips and this summers "jaunts". I decided somewhere along the way to do albums for DD7 and DS5-1/2 , but not EVERY picture I've ever taken. Then my sister had a surpprise 40th birthday party and I told her I'd scrap that. Then I have the current album that is almost finished.
Last night I was sorting pictures again and realized I'LL NEVER CATCH UP!!!! I just don't have the time to do it lilke I thought I would once DS started kindergarten. He goes in the afternoon and there's all this other house work stuff and errands and volunteering at the school. ARGH! I thought when I got my desk that I'd do a couple pages every night but too often I tell myself that I'm tired, had a busy day and am not feeling creative.
SO... Will I EVER catch up?:(

Well, If I were an optimistic person I'd say absolutely! However, I'm a bit pessimistic, and I know how I operate, so I'd have to say no! I, personally, willl never be caught up. I've been scrapping for five years and I have accepted the fact that I'll never get there. The only albums I've completed are a Europe trip, Disney trip, stepson's grad book, wedding album, dad's book and a couple gift albums. On the other hand, I have a family book, christmas book, honeymoon/anniversary trip album and pet album all in progress. I am looking to start girlfriend's album and a book about my husband and I. Someday I hope to have children of my own and then I'll be doing albums for them. So....will I ever be done? Never. Will I ever catch up? Doubtful. I've just accepted my fate and I don't worry about it. It's less stressful that way and then I enjoy the scraptime I have.

Don't despair!! I think if it is really something that you enjoy you will never be done! You will take on new projects and come up with new ideas. I find that it does take me alot of time but then it is a hobby and a hobby is something to endulge yourself in! I find that I work at it in spurts, sometimes I will get one page done, others I will scrap a bunch and well sometimes I don't pay it any attention for months! The nice thing is that it will always be there waiting for me! I have been working on my year 2000 album since January and my disney album since last october of 2000! I am nearly done and then I would like to do one for my mom. In reading both of your posts it seems that you have both accomplished quite abit!

Not unless you stop taking pictures. . .

But that is okay! Think how much you have accomplished! And how much you and others do and will enjoy whatever you are able to complete!

Happy scrapping!

If you can find a Creative Memories consultant near by she can show you how to do an album fairly fast. You will never be caught up because you get addicted and keep taking pictures but that is what it is all about...memories! I have finished 7 albums so far and have a couple more about done.

it depends what your goals are. Is it to get as many pages done as possible, or to just enjoy the process and not worry about the page counts.

I have been watching the challenges, and there are some people doing 30-50or more pages in a month. I do maybe 5 or 6 pages a month, so I know I will NEVER be caught up - but I don't worry about it. I just scrap my favorite photo's and file the rest. Every now and again I will take on a specific project, like a gift album, and I will do a lot of pages, but generally life gets in the way too much.

I have a huge backlog and I don't even want to tell you how many pending albums I hope to do, in addition to ongoing chronological projects. One each for my two grandsons, one for my daughter, one for me and my husband and one for my husband's family. I'm a dabbler at it. I put my current album on the dining room table next to the kitchen and manage to do a lot, just walking by and sitting down a few minutes while I'm waiting for water to boil. I'll choose my pictures and lay them out; then next trip crop them and choose enhancements; then put the thing together over the next couple of trips. Usually takes about 15 or 20 minutes for each stage. It amazes me how a book fills up by just doing bits and pieces.

That being said, I go to every crop I can get to for volume work. I can't just sit and work by myself for hours, but at a crop, I've worked from 10 in the morning till 8 at night in a room full of people and it was fun. Going to a crop weekend at Myrtle Beach where about 250 people show up. Starts 9:00 Friday morning and stops 3:00 Sunday afternoon. I'm talking my long overdue Disney pictures (about 5 trips) and hope to knock off an album while I'm there.

My goodness!! Is this a record? I posted this so long ago and then WHAM! it's back again! LOL!!
I have gone to crops but my CM consultant who had them has quit CM and I didn't like going since I don't use their supplies exclusively. I felt like an outcast with those women who live and breathe CM. That's fine for them. I just like a little more variety in papers and stickers. And the 40% off coupons at Michaels for albums!!
The closest LSS to me that sponsors crops is one hour away. I can only go to one's on the weekends but that's when my kids' have activities. So, I'm a lonely scrapper:(
I did manage to finish my dd's baby album and get my son's started since I posted this though!!
Bev- You're right. I should just enjoy the process but I have this stupid fear something will happen to me and I won't have the albums finished for my family.

I think you sometimes need a break from scrapbooking now and then, or you'll get burned out. I work very slowly and find that I need a break or I'll get sick of doing it. When I'm on a "break," I'll still read the message boards and magazines, so when I'm ready to jump back in, I'll have ideas!

It's not the quantity but quality, in my opinion. If you and your family are happy with your work, that's all that matters. You can always catch up when they're in college!:D

NOPE! Never will I be caught up! But more organized! Hows that? I have 2 boxes of pictures. One I would love to scrap....years back and current. I work on the current ones and I am happy when the school year is caught up...holiday or trips. But I am always taking pictures! So when my box is almost empty BOOM I go on a picture taking frenzy!

I think it is a process to work on forever! But splitting the 2 boxes really helped! That way I don't see the pictures from years ago!
I do dream about the day when I can just crop as the rolls of film come in but I don't think that will be a reality! LOL!

I will never be caught up either...I have two books right now that I have been working on and then another for just Disney stuff...I really enjoy scrappin though and don't worry about getting books done...I just keep taking pictures and adding more pages...LOL! :)

Bananiem-

Have you tried the CK scrapper locator board or the same type of thing on the Dmarie board? It can help you hook up with other scrapbookers in your area. I met some really fun gals in my area this way. I have two really fun groups I get together with to crop (although not often enough it seems!)

As for me ever being caught up, I doubt it. I enjoy taking pictures almost as much as scrapbooking, and there are endless theme and trip albums I'd like to do. As long as I still enjoy it, I just keep plugging away!!

I wont ever catch up because I 'found' my hobby too late! LOL

I have only been scrapping since March and my children are grown up adults now, so I have boxes and boxes and boxes ~~~ and even more boxes of photo's to sort through!

What I have found though is that I am getting an untold amount of pleasure from sitting here scrapping photo's of when they were babies, little, at school etc. It is giving me the wonderful opportunity to relive and recall those days and events. Especially now they both live away from home :(

I keep thinking to myself that I should sort them into some sort of chronological order but I am having so much fun going from one thing to the next ~ I wonder if I were to be more strict with myself if I would enjoy it so much.

I am just keeping all the layouts I do in one album at the moment, and will divide them into their 'own' album as I progress.

LOL In my head I have plans for about 8 albums - and that's before I even look at my parents photo's for making a Heritage Album :)

It is the nature of the scrapbooking beast. I started about 2 years ago and my DD is turning 14 in a couple of weeks. I have sorted our pictures and I'm all most up to her second birthday. I have all our Christmas done and two out of 3 trips to Disney. I am going to start a school days album also. I find I need to have atleast two albums going at once so I don't get not bored but I'll call it scrappers block.

I love looking at all the pictures and having the memories come flooding back to the front of my mind. I'm not very good at journalling because I don't like my handwriting but I have started putting journalling blocks on all my layouts so I will be forced to go back and journal.

Just relax and enjoy your scrapbooking it will always be there.

Wow I thought I was the only one feeling like this will be a lifetime project!

I just started in July and although I enjoyed it I have to tell you that if it wasn't for the workshops my CM consultant holds I probably would be doing 2 pages a month!

I really enjoy it and ofcourse still feel very "slow" because I'm so new at it. I started with CM but do not use their supplies exclusively but don't feel out of place either - I figure hey whatever it takes to get an album done!

I am working on my daughters baby album and then hopefully I would like to do this years Disney vacation album then I thought I should also do our 1999 and 2000 vacation album and then one for our son and one of both of us for our kids and so on and so on and so on....:p

If I quit going to WDW maybe I could get caught up - LOL! I end up scrapping those trips and not my girls' lives!

Try a different CM consultant. Not all are zelots about the CM products. I've got a group of about 15 who come to my house, and use what ever they want in their books.

I hope I never get to the point where I look around and all the photos are scrapped. I truly enjoy the process and coming up with new ideas and techniques. I also enjoy reliving the events in the photos.
When I have an album that I must start and finish in a certain time period I use a basic scrapping method of mounting photos and journaling boxes for the bulk of the album. About every 4th or 5th layout I make it extra special by using a complicated technique or unique embellishments. This gets the album done yet makes it appear interesting to the viewer.

chessie, I'm with you! I know I'm in the minority, but I hope I never get caught up. I want to be able to scrap when I want to and have plenty of material to work with when the mood hits. My scrapbook hobby is for me, not posterity, so I don't have the same feeling of pressure that others do. I look at it as an art form where I can relieve my creative energy while using my photos (another form of creative energy)-- the fact that it creates a permanent keepsake for my family is a nice side-effect, not the purpose.
