Who will be attending the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, TX this year? The dates are June 13th-15th. Are all the buddies from last year going? I would love to see you all again! :Pinkbounc

I wish I could go!! I have seen the ads in the magazines and it looks like it will be a great time! However it is much to far for me to travel! I would love to hear all the details afterwards from anyone who goes.
Grover in Winnipeg
:D

Janette will be in Florida. Jacque and I are going down on Thursday, doing that night's crop and staying through Saturday. We're in several classes Friday and Saturday. Minnie Ann said she is coming, as well. What are your plans? Any classes/crops you want to attend?

If I can go to the Thursday crop, may I sit with you and Jacque? Don't laugh, but I am intersted in all of these types of classes: heritage, punchies and punch art, photo cropping, Sizzix, and sports. I will probably just take 2 classes though. Have you already signed up for classes? What classes? It will be great to see you! Who else wants to join us?

I'd love to sit with you. Minnie Ann wants us to try to save her a spot as well. If there are many of us on the DIS we may have to get 2 tables next to each other, as Jacque and I also have 2 other friends that will be with us this year.

I'll look for my list of classes and get back to you. One is about Scouting pages, another is Supercaliscapilicous (or something terrible like that!). I'll have to look for the names of the others. Somewhere there is another thread about GASC. I posted my classes there when I first enrolled.

Anyone else thinking about attending? The more the merrier! It'd be fun to have a big meet this year.

Here are our classes:

Scout Memories (Fri. 8:00)
Supercalascapalicious (Fri. 9:30)
Your Creative Spirit (Sat. 9:30)
The Magic of Mixed Media 2 (Sat. 3:30)

Then, of course the Thursday night crop. Let's hear from everyone else.

Hi Denise!

I was hoping you'd be coming back to the convention again. I really enjoyed looking at your Disney layouts last year.

I signed up for a ton of classes, I'm afraid. I hated to have that punch art class conflict with the Thursday night cropping party, but I love those Making Memories punch art books and I thought that class would be great. Melissa and Jacque were kind enough to offer to save me a spot at the crop, though, so I plan to be there!

Here are my classes:

Thursday:
Sizzlin' with Sizzix™/M12 1:30PM - 2:30PM
Paper Shaper® Punch Creations/World Series 2 3:30PM - 5:00PM
Punch Your Art Out/M12 6:00PM - 7:30PM
Cropping Party/Ballroom A 6:00PM - 12:00 AM

Friday, June 14, 2002
Honoring Your Heritage/M8 8:00AM - 9:00AM
Supercalascrapalicious/Ballroom A 9:30AM - 11:30AM
The Magic of Mixed Media Workshop 2/M1 12:30PM - 2:00PM
Terrific Techniques With Pizazz/M7 2:30PM - 3:30PM
Time and Again—The most complete Heritage collection/M8 4:00PM - 5:30PM
Cropping Party/Ballroom A 6:00PM - 12:00AM
'DIE CUT Embellishing' Everything You Need To Know/Super Bowl 2 7:00PM - 8:00PM

Saturday, June 15, 2002
Tiny Treasures/M9 8:00AM - 9:30AM
Scrapbooking Sizzix Style/M3 12:30PM - 2:00PM

I may decide to drop some of those before the May 10 cutoff, but I'm wanting to get into doing heritage layouts and I have a new Sizzix, so I'd love those ideas. I took the Mixed Media class last year and it was full of fun ideas - and of course, I just love punch art.

I hope it works out that we can get together again!

Ann

Ok Girls, I finally registered. We have been very busy, as we are preparing to move next week. It looks like I registered in the nick of time because a lot of classes were full! Here is my schedule:

Thursday-

Paper Shapers Punch Creations 3:30-5:00 (look for me MinnieAnn)
Cropping Party 6:00-12:00 (where should we meet?)

Friday-

I may go for general admission and could possibly be talked into the cropping party.

Saturday-

Sizzlin with Sizzix 9:30-10:30
Creating Heritage Pages 11:00-12:30
Mega Methods and Giga Gimmicks 2:30-3:30

Boy, I'm getting excited!
:bounce:

:( I wish I could be there again, hopefully next year I can do WDW & the convention.

At least this year it should be a little easier to find everyone since it's not a first meeting. Everyone needs a balloon or something to make it easy to spot in the crowd! Those cell phones were worthless.

It's getting close to time for the GASC!

I'm having a hard time deciding what to bring to work on - but I'm sure I'll come up with something.

I'll be looking for Denise in our punch art (Paper Shapers) class on Thursday at 3:30 and would really love to meet up with you for the Thursday night cropping party.

I'm in that class that doesn't get out until 7:30 p.m. Please save me a place at your table. I'm sure I will recognize Melissa, Denise and Jacque (sp - sorry) from last year. Maybe you could try to get a table near the stage, like last year. I'll start looking there.

Have a great week and a safe trip to Arlington!

Ann (a.k.a. Minnie Ann)

Ann, we may have to have 2 tables this year, but we'll sure try to save you a spot. I'm sending you a PM with my cel phone #. If you can't find us, you can try to call me, although we had spotty reception last year.

I'm getting excited. I need to look at what I need to take. I've learned from experience that I probably won't get much done! :D Still I continue to dream. I do intend to crop in our room on Friday evening, so I know I'll be productive that night.

Anyone else going? We'd love to meet everyone from the DIS that is going to be there!

You guys have fun! I'll say hi to Mickey and be taking some more Disney pictures. :)

Be sure to bring your pictures to share next year, okay janette? :)

You lucky people, hope you have a great time, I've been to one crop in my life, any cheap transatlantic plane tickets!!:D

I'm home. Had a great time! It was good to see a couple of my DIS friends at the Thursday crop. Glad we could get together again, and we missed you Janette. Hope you really said hi to Mickey for me! Maybe I can post a pic when I get them out of the digital camera.

This was my 3rd year at GASC and I am growing a little frustrated with the organization and some of the classes. One class (that MinnieAnn and I both attended) was seriously over-booked. The teacher was expecting no more than 100. When the class was filled she was notified that there would be more like 125. When she arrived to teach the class there were actually 160 enrolled in the class! There weren't even enough materials for everyone. We were supposed to make 3 layouts in the 2 hour class, but we never even finished one of them. Sigh. Having said that, most classes were still good and the shopping is awesome.

I do wonder if some of the vendors are having a bad experience. I noticed that several didn't attend this year and the giveaways were more limited. Anyone in this part of the country know of another good convention? I've heard that there is one in Kansas City. I think CKU was in San Antonio this year. Please fill me in about one in your neighborhood. I'd like to find another in the vicinity of Oklahoma so it isn't too costly to get there. After all, I don't want to spend my Mickey dollars getting there. ;)

How about the one in Orlando in November. I went last year and tied it up with a side visit to Mickey. Actually my LSS owner asked me to go with her. She is a Disney nut like me and thought it would make a great business trip. I don't think it is going to work out that we will be able to do it this year but we are still talking about it.

That'd be fun, but my scrappin' buddy and I couldn't go that far without our families wanting to go along. And I'm not about to let them do WDW without me!

What is the average cost of attending the one you went to? Is there a fee to sign up and then a fee for each class??? Just curious how they work it. Also....do you get a list of the classes before the registration time, or do you have to make a quick decision that day?

thanks for the info!
Michelle S. (also in Oklahoma :)

Cropping parties cost $20 each night and come with a "goodie bag". In the past they have had a magazine sponsor and have had many, many giveaways, but it wasn't as good this year.

Cost to get to the show floor was $8 a day. That is where all the make-and-takes and shopping occur. We've found it's least crowded on Thursday (although this year I think people were catching on). The best sales are on Saturday, because they don't want to pack it all up. But it's a mad-house.

Classes vary in cost. They range from about $14 to $20. If you want to check it out further go to www.greatamericanscrapbook.com .

Oops, I almost didn't answer all your questions. I enrolled in my classes online. You almost have to if you want specific classes. Many of them fill up very quickly. You can add classes that are still open at the show. The crops fill up as well. It doesn't hurt to get your hotel room in advance either. The one at the convention center fills up months before! We usually stay in a hotel in the area and drive back and forth. They often offer discounts. I think next year's GASC is the first weekend in June.

In addition to the cost of the Expo, I spent at least $200 on supplies and tools and I am very frugal. It is a fabulous education on all the new tools and techniques. I also bought 2 of Becky Higgins' Creative Companions and had her personally autograph them as Christmas gifts for my DD-I-L, and best friend.
