Just read Splash's post about getting hubby to help on his military album. And it set me to thinking...

How do your family members react, interact, talk about your scrapping addiction? ;)

Last night at the kitchen table my son said (in my defense) if she wasn't so busy with football club and everything else she does she'd cook more! And DH said - nope she'd just scrap more!

My boyfriend thinks it is awesome. He now collects things from places we visit that he thinks will add to the pages. We came home from WDW with a huge bag of scrapping stuff, half of which he picked out. He insists that we take the camera every where. My niece and nephew (both teenagers) know that I am working on books for them. We have done lots of fun things togther. They can't wait to see them. In fact, my nephew cuts out the weekly coupon for Michael's for me. My niece likes to scrap with me and we are working togther on a "senior year" book for her.

My family love to look at the albums as they are coming along. My DH doesn't care to help with the family album, but I am very lucky that he actually is the one to put together our Disney trips and the only thing I have to do is the journaling that he dictates to me. I figure if he will keep up on the Disney trip albums, I will do the family ones. I have to say, he uses techniques and colors, etc. that I would never think about putting together and they turn out great.

Deb, he likes looking at the Disney ones I finish....but he's never had any interest in helping with it. Not even in trying to remember something for the journaling.

That's why I had to "trick" him into helping with the military one....without him realizing he was helping. But there were a few days where even I was surprised at how much memorabilia he was digging out of the drawers. I though I would get him for 5-10 minutes....and he "helped" for a 1/2 hr. LOL

I think because it's HIS album.... I'm getting more input. He is proud of my work.....just doesn't want to be a scrapper I think.

Other family members like looking at layouts (online & in real life)...but they all think it's too much work....and say "Your STILL working on your 2000 WDW trip". LOL  My answer: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

I do do other things besides scrap ya know! (work, clean, shop, cook, DIS ALOT...... LOL)

My DD is my biggest critic and admirier of our books. She is always quick to pick out my spelling mistakes. But, she is also the first to ask can I look at what you did. I'm glad she has taken a interest since these are all for her. Of course I tease her and tell her they are for her grandchildren so they know what her life was like.

DH always looks and admires but doesn't give the input DD does.

:p My 2 year old would love to help - he'll sit trying to work a punch for 20 minutes - he knows to put the paper in but can't seem to get it to work!

:p My 8 year old LOVES to look at the albums - especially the ones with her in it!

:p My DH says - I don't need to see pictures 'I Have a photographic memory' then I catch him looking at it - and he does not complain about the amount of $ I spend on it (which really amazes me!)

The rest of my extended family LOVES them!

My husband is very supportive of my scrapbooking hobby. He is also very good at color coordinating pages & layouts in our scrapbooks. He has visited both LSS in our area with me & helps me spend money on "our" hobby :)!

I must admit I am extremely lucky to have my best friend for a husband. He is my biggest fan and will go on and on to EVERYONE he knows about my SB'ing! On my scrappin' days, he comes home and asks to see all my new layouts and then he spends WAY TOO LONG looking at them :) He notices everything! He comments on everything, my layers, my colors, my font I chose, my journaling everything! Even my pages that I don't really like, he says they're great! What a confidence booster he is!

He is always the first to say "Hmm, you should go to Scrapbookers Paradise, it looks like you need some more cardstock" LOL Even though I have TONS  Good thing I know how to budget, cus if it was up to him, we'd BUY out my LSS!

And I also have a sister-in-law who is a SB'er and when we get together, it's great to look at the albums cus we both know EXACTLY how much $$$ and TIME was put into each page :)

I have gotten mixed reactions from family and friends. My dh is a convert, going from "what is all this *#@!" to bragging to family how nice it is so see the pictures in layouts instead of just stuffed in an album. My dd's have their own books. They scrap beside me and think it is a big treat when I give them something out of my stash to use in their books.

As for family they could care less. I have shown off my books at various family get togeathers and they politely look through them and put them down without a word. My sister is interested but has yet to actually do a page. I wish she lived closer so I could scrap with her. None of my friends share my hobby which is a bummer. I will just have to get up the courage to attend a crop and make some new scrapping friends.

Oops! Think I need to clarify my original post.

Everyone, including DH likes to look at the albums, although somethimes I think it is actually my son (the 15 year old) that enjoys the finished product most. They just like to tease a lot and none of them can understand the time spent. Usually I hear "how can you spend hours working on that?". Dh does like (I sort of teased back last night ;) ) that these are at least not adding more "stuff" (I try to keep the materials a bit contained  ).

Occasionally I can actually pull the kids to tell me who someone is in a picture if I don't know them. This was a real challenge while working on DS's football album because the rosters were not always complete and sometimes they guys changed numbers.

To me my biggest positive (even more than the finished albums) is when they come into my scrap room and sit to talk). This is more DS & DD than DH because I tend to scrap when he isn't around. Since he works week-ends and I work during the week we don't regularly have days off together and he can feel a little neglected I think if I'm "hiding" in my scrap room. I have a couch that takes one wall of the spare room that I turned into this room and the kids will come in to "see what you've done" and this is where they'll talk to me about what is going on, etc.

I reminded DH of this last night also and he finally admitted that ANYTHING that gets teenagers to talk about what is going on in their lives is a GOOD thing! :p

My DH is very supportive of my scrapbooking and loves the finished result. He's great at helping me save things for the album while on vacation and he even went to a scrapbook convention with me this past weekend. He is also in charge of scanning anything we need to add (pictures from a disposable camera, and other things).

It is really a team effort at our house.

My husband thinks it is great that I scrapbook for the family! His first wife never did anything like this, so they have no books, just 8 x 10 pictures here and there, like the ones from school...no real memories of vacations or anything, so he is very happy that both of our kids have books for everything! He doesn't help me scrap or anything, says that I am more creative! LOL My parents really love it because they did a book for me, just of pictures, no scrapbook stuff in it, but at least I have that now...My parents love to look at the kids books whenever they come up here and I am happy to have them to show! :)

My dh loves my scrapbooking hobby. Right now, I am working on our wedding album. We have had the pictures for almost 8 years now and I haven't put them in an album. I just finished picking out the paper and embellishments. So, I can't wait to finish it. Neither can my husband. He loves looking at pictures.

As for my family, I don't know if they see the importance of it yet. My cousins rather spend money on clothes than scrapbooking supplies. They think it costs too much money to scrap. But then again, they couldn't tell you when their babies got their 1st tooth. They just don't take enough pictures. Which will be ashame later in life when they don't have the pictures to jog the memory. I like journaling too because then, you can really re-live the moment.
