Say it ain't so about Tusker House lunch!!

I still mourn the loss of Tusker House as a CS restaurant. I've chosen Flame Tree for my AK lunch ever since.

This is a shame. I thought that the priority seating for Finding Nemo was a wonderful "freebie" along with an excellent meal.

Wonderful! The food there is some of the best on property.
Still it's sucky about the characters. Aren't there already enough of those meals? Your kids don't eat every meal as a character meal do they? :confused3

I get what you're saying as I'm not a huge character meal fan myself (I usually do 1 a trip and that's about it) but I do Disney travel agent work part time and it is sometimes frustrating if a client wants a lot of character meals b/c the breakfast books up pretty quickly and there aren't any others at AK. Plus there's the appeal of Mickey. He's not at all of the "classic" character meals and he's at Tusker, so he's a big draw. That may be their thinking in adding this.

I'm bummed, too. We ate there in early December, at around 1:30, and there were many many people there.

We found the Nemo tickets to be useless, not because we didn't go, but because after having a leisurely meal and finding our way over to the theater, we were too late to be seated with those tickets! We were sent to the general seating side, and got much better, IMO (and in my experience at DCA watching aladdin from "preferred" seats that gave you a way WORSE line of sight), seats that way.

I am not a fan of character meals (though hubby and son are) and it was just so nice to have that lovely food available without worrying if I'm going to miss some adorable moment, or worrying if DS is actually going to focus on food vs characters.

No surprise. Lunch here has never been that popular---they even had to use Nemo preferred seating to try to lure people in. Switching to characters will solve that problem.

Don't know when you've been but when we've been there every time it's been quite busy. Busy to the point of being noisy and having to wait to be seated! LOL

I do too, I do too. We did discover though that Tusker still has that delicious salmon they used to serve at the counter service AND the rest of the buffet is really out of this world good! I highly recommend trying Tusker!

After hubby got home tonite I told him about Tusker changing to a character meal. He just groaned and rolled his eyes. :rotfl:
We've decided to now use Tusker at the non character later time and making it our date nights. Walking out of AK after dusk is really a treat so I guess we'll just make the best of the changes.

I feel the same way. I really wished they had left Tusker House as a CS becasue it was one of the very few CS restaurants we enjoyed. We like it as a TS restaurant too, but really hate that they're adding the characters. It was always packed at lunch every time we've been there, which is at least a couple of times each year. Adding the characters just gives them another excuse to raise the price. Oh well, we'll either eat dinner there or go over to Bomas (which we really like better anyway).

Just found out this morning while making ADRs that this had changed. I don't have very strong feelings either way. Characters are neat, but I wish they wouldn't come table to table. I wish there was an area to go to and have your pic made with them at your convenience or something. It's hard to get kids to focus on eating with characters stopping by every little bit. Plus, I always end up sitting at the table in case characters come around so I can take pictures and miss out on enjoying the meal. Oh well. Maybe we'll get that great pic that will make me really glad it's changed!

I too am kind of unhappy to hear that TS lunch is turning into a character meal...don't get me wrong our family LOVE character meals, whether it is for breakfast or for dinner, but we really enjoyed our lunch at TS this past May because it wasn't so hectic as the breakfast usually is plus the food there is awesome . We were planning on making that a must do for our AK day, I guess now we will have to have dinner there and just go back to Flame Tree for lunch.

This place was my favorite by far. Now they will jack up the prices and ruin the dining experience. We at there a lot and never ever saw it empty. I am only there during the marathons and 1/2 marathons and maybe one other holiday (season pass holder in the FL Panhandle), so since it is a character meal, I will look elsewhere. :confused3

in regards of Nemo, it is true - Due to the character lunch, TH is no longer giving the package anymore.

We went today for a 12:15 ADR. Actually got there at 12:35 and there was no problem with a late fee or anything. One lady walked up at the same time and asked if there was availability, and the answer was no, that it was a reservation only day. So I was glad I had made my ADR! 2 adults, a 10 year old that they call an adult, and 2 kids.... $138 plus tip. Whoa!!!! That is pricey!! We are on a plan but still, that is incredibly expensive. The meal was buffet and very good. There were 3 characters - Mickey, Daisy, and was it Donald (?)- can't remember the third or maybe we only saw Mickey and Daisy. The space is huge so 3 characters get swallowed up- hardly felt their presence. I wouldn't avoid if you don't care for characters- they were not really at all the focus- but one might need to reconsider based on price!!! It was packed, but a great experience.
