Fact: They are tearing down Pleasure Island this week and thinking about what they should build there next.

Last week when we were in Disney we were taking the boat from the Old Key West resort to Downtown Disney. The captain informed us that they were tearing down Pleasure Island & they werent sure what they were putting there yet. I think that it's good that they are tearing it down because I cant see Disney as a part of a club. Disney is supposed to be magical not a place to drink and get drunk. The only reason that they even let you drink is because they have bus's back to your resort. I'm glad they are taking it out.

:confused3 They are tearing it down this week? Where did you hear that :confused3

That fact sounds more like fiction.

Cast members spread a lot of groundless rumors. Disney bus drivers seem to be particularly likely to make things up (or perhaps some are particularly gullible, and actually believe what they're saying). And the captains of the various watercraft seem to be the worst of all.

Pleasure Island is not being torn down. The Raglan Road Pub just recently opened. And don't look for a wrecking ball anywhere near the AMC Cinemas or a bulldozer turning all the restaurants and clubs into material for landfill.

There have been numerous reports that Pleasure Island will evolve from a nightclub district into a shopping and dining complex with fewer Disney operations and more space leased to outside companies. Actually, that's already started. The Raglan Road Pub is evidence of that.

The West End Stage may not be long for this world. And some clubs may be replaced with entirely new structures, while others may simply be remodeled.

TESTRACKLOVER92, Welcome to this board. It's always fun to hear what cast members are saying. Please understand that I appreciate that you posted what the captain said, and I'm not attacking you. I'm just pointing out that cast members say a lot of things that turn out not to be factual.

Fact: Boat captains are not the most reliable source of information regarding WDW (neither are bus drivers)

Fact: Don't believe everything you hear, especially from CMs.

When you hear a rumor think about if Disney would gain or lose financialy from the decision. Think about it, leveling the entire place without evening knowing what they will put there, if that was true they might as well put up a sign saying "Head on down to Universal City Walk, you can spend your money there." Not to mention all the people who have purchased MYW passes for 2006 with the options to go to Pleasure Island, people would be furious.

It's gone already. They're putting up a restaurant and hotel themed around Oswald. It's halfway done and will be open next month. They'll take ADR's 365 days in advance and there will be special hotel rates for return guests.

FACT: Pleasure Island is not going to be "torn down" - The West End Stage is at some point - it was supposed to be by the end of this month - but from what I have been told, it has been post-poned temporarily and/or indefinately.

The whole island is not going to be taken out, but some areas are going to be re-done. ALL the clubs are not going to be "gone" - This should happen over the next 3 years or so. There was a "5 year plan" that started with the removing of the gates at PI.

Fact: Disney's Pleasure Island is a great place to drink and get drunk...get crunked up...get crunked up...get crunked up...you know what i'm talkin 'bout.

As long as they don't TOUCH the Adventurer's Club - ever! But especially before our 20th anniversary trip in August!

I believe they may start tearing down the West End Stage soon but that appears about it at this point.

The pace of change at Pleasure Island is going to be determined by who starts renting out the spots. Should someone come along – with cash in hand – a venue can be closed and construction can begin very quickly. Disney wants to dump the Island as quickly as possible, but they also don't want to loose any revenue opportunities either. The existing clubs are likely to remain open until the first set of new tenants are in and operating. Again – it all depends and could be a matter of months to a couple of years.

P.S. For the model of what they want Downtown Disney to look like - look at DD-Disneyland and Festival Disney at Euro Disney. Or just think "shopping mall".

They renewed my annual pass Saturday night, I'm thinking it will still be around for at least another week or two.

Interestingly, because the Beach Club was closed for a private event, the Leonard Brothers were playing on the West End stage. It really added to the atmosphere. If they do plan on closing the Beach Club (or turning into a bowling alley or whatever), I hope they revive the tradition of live music outdoors.

Little early for April Fools, ain't it?

I think they might dig up River Country and put it in as a night time waterpark right where the West End Stage is. :)

Seriously, wasn't there an issue with ADA types of stuff that also prompted some of this change at the west end? Something about the elevator not being compliant for an outdoor venue?

While I would suggest that some updating of PI is needed (and may have started with the opening of Raglan Road), I doubt they are going to completely tear it down.

We may see some new venues there, which I thnk would probably be good.

The only two places I really care about are The Adventurers' Club, and maybe The Comedy Warehouse.
The Adventurers' Club is too unique to do away with.
I wrote a letter to Disney a few months back expressing my concern about possible demolition of the AC. I received a phone call from someone at Disney saying it's just a rumor. I'm sure they have to say that, but it was reassuring to know they received my letter with my concerns. :smokin:
